If you missed the annual Annapolis by Candlelight tour of historic homes this weekend, don’t fret!  We’ve got pictures and quick tidbits on some of the buildings in our slideshow below. The tour featured nine private homes, a bed and breakfast, the alumni building of the Naval Academy, an office suite in a former church, and a fire station-turned-condominium.

While none of the homes gave the sense of entering another era, certain characteristics hinted at a rich past. The supports made of sailing ballasts in the basement of 142 Prince George Street can be traced back to when the basement was the main floor. And the odd angle at which 55 East Street faces the road is a sign of its many transformations: The front of the building was once its backyard.

But are historic homes too much trouble?  Two of the nine private homes on the tour are currently for sale. 146 Prince George Street is priced at $908,000 (click here for photos), while 191 Prince George Street, which went on the market last Friday, is $3.5 million (click here fore photos).  Prospective buyers take note: You better like these houses as they are now. Altering historic buildings — particularly the exterior—is restricted.
