A Night Out: Domino: The Book of Decorating Launch Party

By Nicole Duncan

Despite rainy weather, the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams showroom on 14th Street was filling up with guests by 5 PM last night—half an hour before the Domino: The Book of Decorating party was scheduled to begin. Dainty trays of cheeses, fruits, creme puffs, and chocolate truffles shaped like mice were sprinkled around the showroom. The soiree felt more like a cocktail party at a friend’s chic home than a book launch.

Co-author and Domino magazine creative director Dara Caponigro was on hand, signing copies of the book ($32) and chatting with guests, while Mitchell Gold mixed with the crowd.

Domino: The Book of Decorating is a compilation of the magazine’s best advice transformed into a room-by-room guide and decorating resource. Each chapter offers a variety of styles— everything from “cultured irreverence” to “sophisticated froufrou”— along with some universal tips for sprucing up (or completely revamping) your decor.

The book, which was released in October, is Domino’s first magazine-to-hardcopy publication. But with sister magazine, Lucky, having just released its second fashion-centric manual, Domino’s book debut is unlikely to be the last.
