Splurge vs. Steal: Natural-Fiber Sofas

By Nicole Duncan   Published Wednesday, February 04, 2009

Whether modern or traditional, sofas with organic frames bring a laid-back vibe to even the most formal spaces.

Splurge

The Croissant Sofa by Kenneth Cobonpue ($2,675) is eye-catching. Shaped like its namesake, the steel frame has been hand-wrapped with a natural fiber called abaca. The outdoor version of the Croissant Sofa ($3,125) is wrapped in polyethylene, which gives it a sleeker, weather-proof finish.

Muléh, 1831 14th Street NW, 202-667-3440.

Steal

The Phoenix Settee from Pier 1 Imports has a more conventional design—and a more reasonable price tag ($299.95). Made of bamboo and palm rattan, the piece has a coastal feel while the dark stain finish makes it living-room appropriate. Cushions are not included, so you can choose colors and fabrics that will make this neutral piece fit with any decor.

Pier 1 Imports has stores in DC, Virginia and Maryland.
