The Tweet Beat: The Best Congressional Tweets of the Week

By Sophie Gilbert   Published Friday, May 08, 2009

This week in politics: an opera inspires Newt Gingrich, a Tweet Beat favorite, to take “extraordinary rendition” one step further; Sarah Palin would like you to eat fish; John Culberson is hit by the subprime crisis; Claire McCaskill gets stuck in an underground Senate tram; Jason Chaffetz is obviously miffed that Obama didn’t invite HIM out for a burger, and worse, that the Pres. chose that elitist, Dijon-mustard serving locale Ray’s; Rick Perry thanks God for talk radio, and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen manages to make a meeting with the presidents of Pakistan and Afghanistan sound like a book club with her BFFs. And we suspect someone else has a crush.

Wagner and Newt Gingrich seem made for each other. They both have largeness of scale.
Lack of religious faith was alleged against Thomas Jefferson in his time. His version of the Bible and his compilation of the sayings of Jesus was his response to the charge. Under his leadership Virginia had taken the lead in shaping the relation between religion and the state in the new America, which served as a model for other states.
