The Tweet Beat: The Best Congressional Tweets of the Week

By Sophie Gilbert

If only Barney Frank had Twitter. Everyone else is being generally so nice and respectful to the yelling people descending upon town halls, although Chuck Grassley and Arlen Specter have managed to have a spat of their own. Meanwhile, those who are staying away from public forums of discontent are busy in their constituencies, ably proving how mundane is the life of a representative. Pancake breakfasts? Piggly Wigglys? Ham? Unless you’re John McCain of course, who gets to travel all around the globe and hang out with world leaders.

kevinomccarthy: Happy 100th Birthday to the city of Tehachapi!
Rep. Kevin McCarthy, CA.

greshambarrett: Just wrapped up our last stop of the day. Visited the Piggly Wiggly warehouse in Summerville.
Rep. Gresham Barrett, SC.

rogerwicker: At the Pontotoc City Fire Department Pancake Breakfast.
Sen. Roger Wicker, MS.

boblatta: Meetings today in Wood County, will tour plants and attend groundbreaking for national gateway intermodal in North Baltimore
Rep. Bob Latta, OH.

SenArlenSpecter: Called Senator Grassley to tell him to stop speading myths about health care reform and imaginary “death panels.”
Sen. Arlen Specter, PA.

ChuckGrassley: Specter got it all wrong that I ever used words “death boards”. Even liberal press never accused me of that. So change ur last Tweet Arlen
Sen. Chuck Grassley, IA.

SenArlenSpecter: Senator Grassley is not available on the phone today, but I will talk to him as soon as possible to clarify his position on living wills.
Sen. Arlen Specter, PA.

clairecmc: I agree that it would be good if we could write all legislation, more simply, in plain language.
Sen. Claire McCaskill, MO.

ChuckGrassley: Bc I was 10yrs Union members Machinists people seem to doubt if I’d b against “card check”. I vote NO. Iowa Rite to Wk state
Sen. Chuck Grassley, IA.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, MO.

John McCain’s tweet on the Libyan leader is certainly interesting in view of the rapturous reception given to the Lockerbie bomber released by Scotland on compassionate grounds. British and American leaders are upset not so much by the relaese as by the jubilation, probably officially backed, greeting the bomber’s arrival in Libya.
Randy Forbes’s comment: a few decades ago Americans did not "grow" the economy at all: they enabled it to grow. Evolving usage.
