The Tweet Beat: The Best Congressional Tweets of the Week

By Sophie Gilbert   Published Friday, August 28, 2009

In times like these (AKA the Summer of Death) we all need some humor. And luckily, it turns out that Arlen Specter is a comedian. Who knew? The summer recess continues: John McCain is getting back to nature, Tim Ryan is loving cable, Thaddeus McCotter is worried about spam, Newt Gingrich is reviewing stuff again, Barack Obama is compelling people to spread the truth and Roger Wicker is helping fight swine flu. The sad passing of Ted Kennedy prompted many members from both sides to offer their condolences, and Orrin Hatch’s announcement about that he wrote a song for his good friend is one of the most emotive tweets we’ve seen all year. Not Dana Rohrabacher though—he’s too busy thanking God for... Dick Cheney.

Senator Nelson puts it well: "Most Americans cannot even remember a time without Ted Kennedy."
Kennedy entered the Senate in 1963 (taking the seat JFK had had until 1960), and has been in the news since, though sometimes for the "wrong" reasons.
