Sidewalk Style: Romp Around
By
Rachel Cothran
Over the weekend, we snapped someone wearing one of the summer's hottest (coolest?) trends: a romper! Take a poll on if you think it's a stylish fad, or a blight on the fashion landscape.
Megan Breaks, 27 Management associate, Tiffany & Co.
Where’s the romper from? “The label is Habitual, and it’s from Century 21 in New York—I just moved here. The bag is Steve Madden. My mom was going to give it to me for my birthday, but she wanted me to have it now.”
When’s your birthday? “November. I have the greatest mom!”
What are you coveting over at Tiffany? “Oh, everything. Anything diamonds!”
Where do you like to shop? “I love American Apparel. I think it’s funny that one of their stores is opening next to the Junior League in Georgetown.” What do you think of the romper? “I love them! I have about four. Some are terry cloth. Some are vintage, and some are new. They’re comfy.” Rachel Says: Now that summer is finally here, I find that I want to wear the easiest and most comfortable thing possible. The romper is a great option, and there are tons of high-low options out there.
We post Sidewalk Styles every Tuesday morning. Check back next Tuesday to place your vote on another Sidewalk Style outfit.

I think Megan looks absolutely great in her romper, but I’m still not a fan of the style overall. It’s just too easy to go wrong with this style.
If they weren’t "in" and I saw this picture, I think I would love it. Rompers are quirky items that are perfect on quirky girls - but 90% of the population is not quirky.

I’d say ditch the romper and BRING ON THE ONE PIECE PANTSUIT. especially peach ones with faux fur collars from Remix.

Its cute but not really work appropriate. I also love the bag, but not with that outfit. It overwhelms the outfit.

She looks adorable! And by saying she looks like a teenager, makes one sound jealous that a woman can pull off youthful and fun. What are you? 37 and you look it? Can’t squeeze into that tube top anymore? D.C. is definitely not a "style" city, and its nice to see someone pull on an effortless, affordable, and fashionable look. Cute hair cut!

Oh he** no! Did we not learn anything from the ’90s, people?

A relevant and important statement on modern fashion. A beautiful specimen to say the least!

She looks like a teenager who stole her grandmother’s purse.

Yeah. There has seriously got to be a better name for this trend than romper. Worst term ever.

Yes, she had three little stars tattooed on her foot!
I wish the pic had come out better. It was denim with great retro styling up top. As we were talking, a girl walked past in a navy knit romper with little blue stars on it. It was adorable. From Topshop...

Does the word "rompers" remind anyone else of a brand of diapers or something?

I agree, I’ve seen some really cute versions of these (i refuse to use that term though). This one just strikes me as boring.

Me neither, but the flats are cute. And is that a tattoo—or two?—on her foot?

I’m not really feeling the romper...but I love her bag!
