Ladies, you can profit from a broken heart—on exboyfriendjewelry.com. Marie Perry and her stepdaughter, Megahn, set up the site to spare women from having to visit pawnshops to get rid of bad memories. An Elsa Peretti bean necklace was recently listed at $395—$100 off the retail at Tiffany & Co. A Tiffany figure-eight pendant, usually $150, was being sold for $50 by a woman whose boyfriend took off for Ireland. The price, like that of many items on the site, was negotiable. Each piece comes with a story. A recent seller wrote that a TV preacher had paid more than $2,000 for a Lalique bracelet she was shedding for $900: “I won’t tell you how much it cost me, but suffice it to say I have no attachment to it.” This article appears in the August 2008 issue of Washingtonian magazine.
