Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

Shopping and cake—what more could a bride ask for?

By Ashley Jacobs

Thursday, November 13, through Saturday, November 15: Rivini Trunk Show
Like pretty, romantic dresses? Us too! Today through Saturday, head downtown to Rizik’s (1100 Connecticut Ave., NW; 202-223-4050) for a trunk show of feminine gowns by Rivini, featuring selections from the spring 2009 collection. Brides who purchase during the weekend get 10 percent off. Free; appointments are suggested.

Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15: Amsale Trunk Show
Ever feel utterly dissatisfied with each gown you try on? Bridal-gown designer Amsale certainly did, and that discontent spurred her to take matters into her own hands and start a namesake bridal-couture house based in New York City. Now, more than 20 years later, Amsale’s gowns continue to drape happy brides. Stop by Hitched (1523 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-333-6162) this weekend for a trunk show of dresses from the spring 2009 collection—many of which aren’t normally in stock. Brides who purchase during the weekend get 10 percent off. Free; appointments are required and last one hour.

Sunday, November 16: An Open House, With a Cake Tasting
Custom Cake Design (8535 Ziggy La., Gaithersburg; 301-216-1100) holds this bridal event once a month—except in December, so take advantage of this one instead of waiting until 2009! About half of the shop’s 25 cake flavors will be prepared for a tasting, from traditional almond to the signature white raspberry to a fall-inspired spice cake. The showroom will also have more than 60 cakes of varying sizes and designs on display, and representatives from Win Photography and Video Express will be present. Free; noon to 4.
