Where and When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

What’s coming up on the bridal calendar? Green wedding dresses, cupcakes, and do-it-yourself invites!

By Ashley Jacobs

Now through Saturday, March 7: Bridal Sample Sale
The sample sale at Harriet Kassman Bridal Salon (5300 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-363-1870) ends Saturday, and we hear the store is marking down about 30 designer dresses at 60 to 75 percent off. Too good to be true? Catch it while it lasts!

Thursday, March 5, though Saturday, March 7: Melissa Sweet Trunk Show
A trunk show is always a terrific opportunity to view and try on gowns that aren’t normally carried in stores, and that goes for the trunk show at Carine’s Bridal Atelier (1726 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-965-4696) today through Saturday. Check out the 2009 spring collection from Melissa Sweet as well as some 30 additional gowns. Brides who purchase a dress during the weekend will receive 10 percent off. By appointment only; appointments last one hour.

Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7: Adele Wechsler Trunk Show
“Ecocouture” isn’t a term often heard in casual conversation about wedding dresses, but South African designer Adele Wechsler proves that it could be. Her new line of inspired, feminine frocks was created with the environmentally conscious bride in mind and uses only organic fabrics. Brides-to-be who purchase an Adele gown at the Promise . . . for the Savvy Bride (4931-A St. Elmo Ave., Bethesda; 301-215-9232) trunk show this weekend will receive 10 percent off, a watercolor sketch of their gown (created personally by Adele), their initials monogrammed into the gown’s lining, and a tree planted in their name by Treegivers.com. Additionally, customers who book an appointment get a coupon for a free cupcake from Frosting, Bethesda’s newest cupcakery.

Tuesday, March 10: Wedding Survival Event
Plan ahead: The National Museum of Women in the Arts and Well Dunn Catering teamed up to bring brides-to-be the ultimate event in wedding planning. Their Weddings for All Seasons event, held at the museum (1250 New York Ave., NW; 202-783-5000), promises to offer everything from advice and ideas from industry experts to cake tastings and displays of the latest trends in wedding decor. Call Kelly O’Driscoll at 202-783-7988 to RSVP. Free; 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Wednesday, March 11: Do-it-Yourself Wedding Invitations
Plan ahead: Reston’s Paper Source (11975 Market St., Reston; 703-481-0053) is hosting a class on Wednesday where you can make your own save-the-dates—exactly as you want them. Experiment with different paper textures, colors, and messages to find the perfect style. Bonus: The teacher will also give tips on how to mass-produce the designs for couples with a lengthy guest list. Reservations suggested. $55; 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
