Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11: Augusta Jones Trunk Show Charlotte and June Leung’s Augusta Jones bridal-gown label has made quite a name for itself in the decade since its creation. The Leungs, a step-mother/step-daughter team, wanted to create a line of gowns that would fit three criteria: beautiful styling, flexibility of range for a variety of body shapes, and affordability. The stylish, sleek, award-winning dresses are featured regularly in bridal magazines for their contemporary designs and unique jeweled details. Georgetown’s Hitched (1523 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-333-6162) is featuring 25 of the gowns in a trunk show this weekend. All dress trials are by appointment only—call ahead or e-mail info@hitchedsalon.com. Free; Friday 11 to 6, Saturday 9 to 5. Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12: Free Bridal Open Houses Still haven’t found that perfect venue? Two elegant Virginia manors are offering free tours for engaged couples. Foxchase Manor (8310 Chatsworth Dr., Manassas; 703-369-3638), built in a traditional Jeffersonian style, is opening its doors from 11 to 3 on Saturday and noon to 4 on Sunday. The Grand Ballroom, with its 45-candle chandeliers and 18-foot ceilings, can accommodate more than 500 guests, while a smaller ballroom, entry hall, and patio are also available for the wedding party. Rose Hill Manor (42140 Raspberry Plain La., Leesburg; 703-771-9177), which also has spacious ballrooms and patios, will be open from noon to 3 on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday, April 12: New Age Caterers Tasting The chefs at New Age Caterers (1900 Campus Commons Dr., Reston; 703-476-1200) specialize in modern American cuisine, fused with international flavors. In 2008, they received the Best of Reston Caterers award. The company is offering private bridal tastings this weekend. $20 per person; to reserve appointments, available from noon to 7:30, click here.

Gone are the robust bureaus for the Los Angeles Times, Newhouse News, and other once-healthy news organizations. Digital media bureaus now are taking their places with as many reporters and plenty of swagger.
