Where & When: Bridal Edition

Trunk shows, a bride-and-basketball event (really!), and more to look forward to this weekend.

By Molly Lehman

Back by popular demand, Hitched (1523 Wisconsin Ave., NW) will host a two-day trunk show September 11 and 12. It will feature Modern Trousseau’s sweet and lacy bridal-gown collection plus elegant wine-and-Champagne numbers for the mothers of the happy couple. Grab your mom and future mother-in-law and call 202-333-6162 to reserve your spot.

Compromise is a great lesson in any successful marriage—and there’s no better example than Brides and Basketball, held Saturday, September 12, at the Verizon Center (601 F St., NW). Doors open at 6 PM with a bridal show featuring Washington-based wedding planners, honeymoon packages, photographers, and plenty of ideas. The first 100 brides in the door receive free wedding-band sets; the first 300 will receive an eight-day trip certificate to Mexico. At 7, couples can settle in to watch the Washington Mystics take on the Atlanta Dream. Tickets are $10 and cover the cost of both the show and the game. Get them at the door or online at heavenlyhavenproductions.com.

Ring vendor Verragio’s collections of wedding bands will be the glittering star of the Baubles for Brides trunk show on September 12, hosted by Mervis Diamond Importers in Tysons Corner (1900 Mervis Way). Though the focus is on the ice, this complimentary event is also a great opportunity to learn about other wedding services in Washington, including bridal gowns from the Gainesville-based Blush Bridal Boutique. Miniature cupcakes by Bee’s Wedding Cakes will be available for sampling along with several varieties of local white wine. Call (703) 448-9000 for more information. 10 to 5.

On Sunday, September 13, brides-to-be can meet with Washington wedding professionals and participate in giveaways—including four nights’ hotel accommodations in Hawaii—at the Fall 2009 Bridal Expo, hosted by Show Bride at the Chesapeake Conference Center (900 Greenbrier Cir., Chesapeake). One tip for budgeting lovebirds: Buy your tickets online at showbride.com—they’re $5 on the Web but $10 at the door. Noon to 3.

Get a sample of wedding catering at an Open House Tasting Party on Tuesday, September 15, at the Sunset Room at National Harbor (137 National Plaza, Suite 300). This free event has become a staple for the host, R&R Catering, which is now in its 20th year of business. In addition to food samples, wedding professionals specializing in a range of wedding services—including planning, cake, entertainment, and flowers—will be available. Register online (did we mention it’s free?) here. 5 to 8.
