Welcome to Bridal Party
During the holidays, I don’t know what gets popped more—Champagne bottles or the question (you know the one—it starts with “Will” and ends with “you marry me?”). If you’re kicking off 2008 with visions of towered cakes and rehearsal dinners (or if you’re prepping to be a bridesmaid/groomsman or wondering what to wear/bring/say on a friend’s big day, or hey—maybe you just love weddings), welcome to Bridal Party, a new Washingtonian.com blog on everything wedding. You probably still want to hire that planner, but you can turn to this blog for:
• What’s new in wedding fashion (for women and men) • Tips on how to make your wedding affordable • Wedding professionals’ answers to your questions • Advice for members of the wedding party, such as how to deal with a too-stressed bride or give the perfect toast • Stories about wacky Washington weddings and cute area couples • Engagement announcements
That’s just a taste of the many posts to come. If there’s a topic you’d like to read about, send ideas to me at mconrad@washingtonian.com, or just leave a note in the comments section.

Hi, Meechi. Thanks for reading! That would be a great question to ask during Thursday’s live online chat with wedding planner Carol Marino. The chat starts at 11 AM, so I encourage you to log on and submit your question.

Welcome from the DCNearlyweds! http://www.dcnearlyweds.com/
It’s great to have another DC wedding blog around to share new ideas.
Personally, I’d love to see some posts on truly affordable D.C. area venues that aren’t boring. Most of the places listed in the Washingtonian can be pretty expensive.

Can you recommend a venue where I can have an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception for about 150 that allows outside catering?

Gone are the robust bureaus for the Los Angeles Times, Newhouse News, and other once-healthy news organizations. Digital media bureaus now are taking their places with as many reporters and plenty of swagger.

Sip some Beaujolais Nouveau, check out the Terra Cotta warriors, see a vintage murder thriller, and more this weekend.
