Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

By Marissa Conrad

Montgomery County’s largest bridal show, Katherine Heigl, and more.

Friday, January 18: Premiere of 27 Dresses
Fitting with my shout-out for ugly-bridesmaid-dress photos, Katherine Heigl plays the perpetual bridesmaid (and, judging from the trailer, wears some doozies) in the movie 27 Dresses, which—despite lukewarm reviews—I cannot wait to drag my boyfriend to see. I know I’m not the only one, so if you want Friday tickets, you may want to Fandango a few right now.

Sunday, January 20: Washington Bridal Showcase
Walk down the aisle(s) a little early by heading to the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel (5701 Marinelli Rd., Bethesda) for the Washington Bridal Showcase—an event packed with samples, demonstrations, vendors, and everything else engaged couples love. It’s the largest bridal show in Montgomery County, which makes it a can’t-miss. If you’re among the first 500 brides to get in, you’ll score a free one-year subscription to Modern Bride along with your ticket price. $10 at the door, $8 advance purchase; 11 AM to 5 PM.

Shagun-Hilton Bridal Expo
This South Asian bridal-rama, held at the Hilton Washington DC North/Gaithersburg (620 Perry Pkwy., Gaithersburg), will feature the latest trends in mandaps, makeup, and mehndi along with fashion, flowers, food, and more. With more than 10,000 square feet of exhibits, there’s a lot to see—and admission is free. 11 AM to 5 PM.

Great Bridal Expo
If you’re bridal-show hopping, this can be your third one this Sunday. Exhibitors such as Christian Bauer, David’s Bridal, and the Falls Church bakery A Piece of Cake join dozens of others at the Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel (999 Ninth St., NW). $9 at the door, $7 advance purchase; noon to 8.
