It's So Hard to Say Goodbye

Our beloved wedding blogger says goodbye—but welcomes a fresh face to Bridal Party.

By Lynne Shallcross , Marissa Conrad

In addition to Monday morning’s usual bridal news roundup, I have two more big news items: As of today, I will no longer be writing for Bridal Party. I accepted an editor position in Chicago to be closer to my family (and to spend the next couple of months bracing for a subzero winter). The other news? This you’ll like: Bridal Party will continue to bring you the same great features and wedding advice. I’ll let the new chief bridal blogger, Lynne, introduce herself (all I’ll say is that she’s probably the nicest person you’ve ever met—and talented, too!), but first I want to thank everyone for reading this blog over the past five months and wish you all amazing weddings! Keep reading!

For those of you who have been reading along from the start of this blog, I feel your pain. I wish Marissa didn’t have to go, either! We wish her the absolute best in the Windy City, and to say we’ll miss her is the understatement of the year. She left some darn big shoes to fill over here. Despite being only a size eight, I’ll do my best to fill them.

To introduce myself, my name is Lynne Shallcross and I am an assistant editor at The Washingtonian. I interned here in 2004 and returned full-time about a year ago. Among other stories and packages, I worked on the 2008 Washingtonian wedding guide, which ran in the January issue. I graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in journalism, and I live in Arlington with my boyfriend. While I’m not on my way down the aisle just yet, I am on my way to a number of friends’ weddings this summer and fall. Three between August and September—and three more “I’m engaged” phone calls that I’m expecting in the near future.

So tell me, what can I do for you? As you all prepare for your exciting big days—or even if you’re along for the ride with a family member or friend—let us know how we can help. Send all your questions, ideas, and comments to lshallcross@washingtonian.com. I’ll look forward to hearing from you!
