The Hot Ticket: Your Guide to Events on Sale

Every Thursday, we find out the hottest concerts and when they’re going on sale in the days ahead so you don’t have to do the work. Read on for this week’s heads-ups.

By Sonia Harmon

Just a few weeks ago Cat Power, whose real name is Chan Marshall, released Dark End of the Street, an EP of tracks originally recorded for her most recent album, Jukebox. See her perform her latest material at 9:30 Club on Sunday, February 8. Tickets ($28) went on sale this morning.

We hate to break it to you, but Valentine’s Day is closer than you think. Never fear—whether you’re single or coupled up, you can check out the Black Cat’s Valentine’s Day Bash on Saturday, February 14, for a night of music and dancing. The Ambitions and the Electricutions will perform, and you can stick around afterward for Chad America’s tenth-annual Valentine’s Day free rock-and-roll dance party featuring four DJs. Tickets ($8) go on sale Friday at 5 PM.

DC-based rockers the Moderate play the Black Cat on Tuesday, January 6. Learn more about the band by checking out our Local Listens column from earlier this month, when we got up close and personal with the guys. Tickets ($8) go on sale Friday, December 26, at 5 PM.

There aren’t too many shows going on sale this week, so here’s a reminder of some great upcoming shows with tickets still available. First is Robin Thicke. His upcoming concert with opener Eric Benet at DAR Constitution Hall has yet to sell out, which is surprising given the number of women who swoon over his smooth vocals. The show is on Saturday, December 27. Tier seating is still available; tickets are $70.

Lil Wayne broke onto the mainstream music scene this year with his album Tha Carter III—it sold over a million copies in the first week. Tickets to his show at the Verizon Center on Tuesday, December 30, are still available. T-Pain, Keyshia Cole, and Gym Class Heroes will also perform. Tickets ($65.75 and $85.75) are still on sale.

Local five-piece band the Speaks is headlining a show at 9:30 Club on Saturday, January 10, as part of its farewell tour. The alternative-rock band has a large following in Washington, so get your tickets ($15) while they’re still available.
