Monday: SilverDocs Kicks Off! SilverDocs, the annual documentary film festival held at Silver Spring’s AFI Silver Theatre, returns this week with a slate of screenings, conferences, discussions, and a concert scheduled over eight days. More than 100 films are shown during the festival, and deciding which to catch (and which to skip) can be quite daunting. So we’ve come up with a trusty guide to help you out.
Tuesday: Kids' Restaurant Week Tired of giving your kids chicken fingers and fries off the children’s menu? Check out Kids’ Restaurant Week, hitting DC this week.
Wednesday: Summer Power Pop Each summer, we're constantly on the search for that one perfect album that will encapsulate the feelings of the season—driving with the windows down, cannonballing into the pool, lying in the grass. Telekinesis's album did it for us this year—it's a sugary sweet blast of perfect pop music. The group is at the backstage of the Black Cat tonight. $10, 9 PM.
Thursday: Watch Ghostbusters–Outdoors! Who can resist ’80s movies? How about free ’80s movies, outside—where you can get free candy? That just set off every happy trigger in our brain. Well, that’s what you get tonight at the Capitol Riverfront’s film series. It’s showing Ghostbusters, and there will be wax lips candy, Pixie Stix, and more. Movies start around 8:45 at Tingey Plaza (100 Tingey St., SE). Get more free film series here. More>> After Hours Blog | Arts & Events | Happy Hour Finder | Calendar of Events

Hey, just a note that Jackie’s Restaurant is the entertainment venue for Silverdocs this year, hosting parties & happy hours for passholders, filmmakers, etc., including the reception for the closing night film "The Nine Lives of Marion Barry" with a block party and live go go music (locking down two GREAT bands right now). Plus Quarry House the official Late Night Lounge with all sorts of specials for ticket holders. Join the fun!! Some of the events open to ticket holders, some by invite only, so check first. See you at the films and parties!!
