Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

Super-cheap thrills and beer galore

By Sarah Zlotnick

Monday, August 23
Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is staging the first performance of Sarah Ruhl’s latest work, In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play, which is about bodily exploration and repressed sexuality. Because it’s opening night, you pay as much (or as little) as you’d like. Lines begin forming around 5 for the 8 PM show, and bring cash—credit cards aren’t accepted. Tuesday, August 24
Ah, good ol’ Arlington Cinema ’N’ Drafthouse—you can always count on the Northern Virginia institution to screen films that are decidedly not worth full price but are still a cut above last place on the Netflix queue. Tonight catch the ridiculousness that is Russel Brand for a mere two bucks in Get Him to the Greek, the 2010 spinoff of Brand’s rockstar character Aldous Snow in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. 7:30; doors open at 6:30.

Wednesday, August 25
D.C. Beer Week presents . . . a prime opportunity to relive hazy college memories. Tonight at the Big Hunt, hear performers spin tales of keg stands, one-night stands, and more in Fermented: A Night of True Tales About Beer. Cheers to the times you’ll never remember with the friends you’ll never forget. 8 to 10.

Thursday, August 26
Got Derek Brown envy? Occidental Grill & Seafood gets you one step closer to mastering mixology with its Home Bar cocktail class. The Museum of the American Cocktail partners with Jerry LeNoir, cofounder of Mr-Booze.com, to teach you how to stock and serve your own great drinks and entertain like a true bartender. Tickets ($45 here, $50 at the door) get you four to five cocktail samples and appetizers. 7 to 8:30.
