A bottle of wine at Sonoma is the perfect way to end the day.
A Sunday Afternoon on Capitol Hill Start off casual with brunch at Jimmy T’s , a historic hole-in-the-wall diner (501 E. Capitol St., SE). You might have to wait in line, and be forewarned that there’s no pretension here: Get your own water or risk a glare from the good-natured proprietors. Coffee comes in mismatched cups, and the waffles are delicious. Then wander up the block to browse in Riverby Books (417 E. Capitol St., SE), a hidden gem of a used bookstore. Head down to Eastern Market (Seventh St. and North Carolina Ave., SE ) , where you can wander among produce stands, local artists’ displays, and a big flea market for antiques, vintage magazines, jewelry, and furniture. If you’re ready for a snack (or at least a drink), walk up Pennsylvania Avenue to Sonoma (223 Pennsylvania Ave., SE), a wine bar with intimate lighting, shareable charcuterie plates and cheese boards, and 50 wines by the glass. On Sunday evenings, bottles of reserve wines are half off. —Garrett Graff and Ann Limpert
