Sidewalk Style: Breana Teubner

Welcome to Sidewalk Style, where we photograph stylish people on the street and ask them about their fashion tips and ideas. This week we stopped Breana Teubner in a sparkly vintage number. Sidewalk Style is written by Rachel Cothran of the local street-fashion photography blog ProjectBeltway.com.

By Rachel Cothran

Name: Breana Teubner, 27
Lobbyist for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

What are you wearing?
“My dress is 1920s vintage from Remix on Capitol Hill, and the shoes are Calvin Klein.”

Where you like to shop?
“Cusp and Intermix in Georgetown are great for finding unique dresses to wear to special events. I do a lot of shopping online—I search for my favorite designers on eBay and have gotten some classic pieces at affordable prices. For example, last year I got a Herve Leger bandage skirt for well below market price. When I go home to Orange County, I make it a priority to visit the consignment stores for jewelry. But let’s just say Orange County housewives have a different idea of what is giveaway-able! For basics, I like the Gap Body line, which is tagless and washes well. My favorite designers are Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg. I know it’s cliché, but her wrap dress is perfect for going from day to night. I always seem to reach for them in the morning. My dream I-know-I’ve-made-it purchase would be a St. John suit—someday!”

Favorite item in your closet?
“I couldn’t pick one! For work, I love my vintage silk Oleg Cassini blouses—I have one that is a beautiful yellow gold that adds style and contrast under a black skirt suit. And Cassini has such a history in this town. This winter, I found a black-velvet beaded Vince party dress; the label seems to do a good job of making contemporary pieces that will carry through time. And of course, Wal-Mart carries $4 organic-cotton T-shirts that are great for lounging on the weekends and yoga class—I have one in every color.”

What do you have your eye on stylewise for spring?
“I’m looking forward to breaking out of the winter rut with lots of bright colors, and I think the floral trends we saw last week in New York will be a must-have this spring. Tory Burch has a great resort line, and I admire her personal style, so it’s fun to wear anything by her. Honestly, I am so excited to see structure coming back. I like clothes that show off your waist, and it seems like for the last couple of years young women have been wearing maternity dresses.”

Rachel says:
My readers will be shocked to hear that I have never used nor do I know how to use eBay. I know it isn’t difficult, but . . . I just don’t know how! Thank goodness Breana has offered to help me navigate. I love vintage, and I know that there are some real deals to be found online. Anyone have any tips to look out for and what to avoid?

Hey, this girl knows what she is talking about in fashion. Next time she is in Orange County, I want to go shopping with her.

I’m so glad to see that Wal-Mart is putting all that money it saves on benefits and wages to good use! This certainly shows where the company’s priorities lie: store employees make pittance wages and go without health care while the company’s DC lobbyists buy designer clothes and ask Congress for tax breaks. Fascinating.
