Rewind: Shecky's Night Out

By Betsy Lowther

Rewind tells you the scoop on events you may have missed. Last week, we hit up the popular Shecky's shopping event to tell you what were the must-have items.

If you missed last week’s Shecky’s Girls Night Out event at DAR Constitution Hall, have no fear. Though the annual shopping party has packed up and moved on, we managed to elbow our way through the crowds to give you a full recap of the three-night soiree.

We bravely sampled various sponsor freebies (the new Bacardi mojito drink had all the deliciousness of mouthwash, we agreed, while beauty brand Borba’s specialty skin-balance drinks were surprisingly light and fresh), ate more than our share of Hershey’s Bliss dark chocolate, and carefully perused nearly 50 fashion and beauty vendors to pass you a post-event short list of favorites. In particular, several indie jewelry designers caught our eye, and luckily for us, they all sell their pieces online as well. Here’s a quick review of our top finds.

Store: Lucid New York
Style: We instantly loved the impressively wide range of teensy metal charms—from fortune cookies to scissors to the smallest soft pretzel—strung on delicate 14-karat-gold-filled or sterling-silver chains. (And at $35 each, they’re nicely affordable.)
Extra cred: Lucid’s light-as-air chainlink necklaces were recently featured in Vogue. Guess we weren’t the only ones who were charmed (quite literally) by designer Anna Sabino.

Store: Lolabean
Style: Sweet crystal and 14-karat-gold chain necklaces, delicately thin bangle bracelets, and shredded-leather bags from designer Tiffany Bean were a huge hit with the Shecky’s shoppers. We had to push our way through the crowd to see the whole range, but it was worth it.
Coming soon: A new Lolabean shopping Web site will debut June 1, and we really hope it contains her fabulously funky square-shaped gold rings. We’re having serious remorse that we didn’t buy them then and there.

Store: Pretty Little Thing
Style: Polished wooden pendants (oversize hearts, tropical birds) and funky charms (a tiny saw!) were favorites from University of Maryland alum Lirany Vasquez, whose pieces have been featured in a slew of national magazines and stocked in stores including Henri Bendel.
Don’t miss: The new line of quirky-adorable "weapon charm" necklaces, including mini-cleavers cast in sterling-silver and gold vermeil. Think of it as a slice of serious style.

Truly the highlight of the night was local jewelry designer - Queen Bee Designs - she had the best jewelry and a really diverse line. Her online website leave something to be desired, but her jewelry has the only line who stood out - www.QueenBeeDesigns.com
I think she is even having a sale or a trunk show this weekend in Alexandria...
