Touchdown! Area Bars to Kick Off the Redskins Season

By Matt Carr , Claudia Bahar , Nicole Duncan , Carlos Lu , Jesseka Kadylak

It’s been a long seven months since last year’s NFL season, but football is back in full swing tonight. The Redskins take on defending Super Bowl Champs the New York Giants at Giants Stadium. We’ve got the scoop on area bars that will be having parties and drink specials to celebrate the Redskins’ (we hope!) total domination.

Adams Mill Bar & Grill
Enjoy $3 pints, $10 pitchers, and food specials while watching the Redskins season opener.

Arlington Cinema ’n’ Drafthouse

Watch the big game on the big screen for free. Enjoy half-price appetizers all night and 35-cent wings from 5 to 8. Doors open an hour before kickoff.

Bar Louie
Bar Louie’s kickoff specials include a $15 all-you-can-eat buffet and $3 Coronas.

BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon
Game night drink specials include $15 beer towers and $3 Miller Lite drafts. The game-day menu includes wings, sliders, and nachos for $5.95 each. With 17 wide-screen TVs and four booths with individual 15-inch screens, you have no excuse for missing the game.

Breadsoda
Breadsoda’s Thursday-night happy hour will run throughout the game: $4 red and white wine by the glass, $4 rail drinks, and $4 Guinness, Peroni, Bud Light, and Amstel Light.

Buffalo Billiards
With more than 20 TVs and pool tables to occupy fans during halftime, Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle is a good place to catch the game. The bar features $3 Miller Lite bottles and drafts during all Redskins games. Because the game falls on a Thursday, fans can enjoy happy-hour prices until 7 PM as well as $2 High Life and $3 Sam Adams afterward.

Cardinal’s Nest
Watch the game on a projection screen while enjoying 50-cent wings and drink specials.

Champions
Celebrate the reopening of Champions in Georgetown and the season opener with chances to win Redskins tickets and other prizes. Food and beer specials during game day.

CP Bar and Grill
While CP Bar and Grill doesn’t offer any drink specials, the game will air on all 30 of the bar’s TVs and the 115 inch screen projector.

Crystal City Sports Pub
Watch the Redskins take on the Giants with full volume on the bar’s main level.

ESPN Zone
Though ESPN Zone airs all NFL games on more than 150 screens, the Skins are the priority team. Become an MVP member to reserve priority seating.

Greene Turtle
Most of the TVs will be tuned into the game with the volume turned up, so watch the action while enjoying the mideek Miller special ($3.25 for 16 oz. drafts).

McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon
This Foggy Bottom staple is offering $2 Miller Light and Coors Light bottles, $10 Miller Light pitchers, and $5 Buffalo-wing baskets.

Mister Days Sports Rock Cafe
Not all football teams are lucky enough to have a cheering squad. Kick the season off by seeing four of the Redskins Cheerleaders perform from 7 to 10 PM.

Nanny O’Briens
Watch the game and enter for a chance to win a free Redskins jersey.  Receive a raffle ticket for every drink purchased, and by the end of the night two tickets will be drawn.  Nanny O’Briens will also be serving $3 Miller Lite specials and half-priced wings.

Rocket Bar
Watch the big game on Rocket Bar’s 17 flat-screen high-definition TVs and enjoy its Thursday specials: $3 Pabst Blue Ribbon cans, $5 rail cocktails, and $4.50 Miller High Life pounders.

Velocity Five
This new bar—created by a former assistant Skins coach—is dedicated to the burgundy and gold for the season opener. Enjoy $3 cocktails and drafts during happy hour. The postgame radio show will broadcast live from the restaurant area.
