A presidential exhibit, a cider happy hour (with free food!), a green festival, a knitting workshop, and an art party are all in this weekend’s picks.

Thursday, November 6: Rami Kashou of Project Runway will be at the Phillips Collection this evening for a happy hour and a discussion about fashion. There’ll be a cash bar, live music by Potomac Jazz Project, and lots of opportunities for mingling. $15; 5 PM.

Friday, November 7: Hirshhorn After Hours just sold out its advance tickets, and for good reason—Dan Deacon will be playing at the museum’s popular Friday-night party. The Baltimorean is well known for his electronic music and manic live shows, so it should be a fun one. There are still tickets, but they’ll be on sale only at the door, so make sure to get there super-duper early.

Celebrate the changing leaves of fall every Friday through December 19 from 5 to 7 PM at Equinox’s cider-themed happy hour. The hot-cider cocktails aren’t so cheap at $10 and $11, but chef Todd Gray’s seasonal snacks—such as pumpkin fritters, sweet-potato pot stickers, and venison chili—are free. Come winter, the happy hour will take on a new theme—chocolate—featuring desserts from pastry chef Melanie Parker.

Saturday, November 8: With the weather getting colder, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to knit yourself a cozy blanket or a pair of mittens? Well, today, Proper Topper in Georgetown is hosting a knitting workshop run by artisanal wool makers from Solitude Wool. Classes are $15 plus $35 for supplies. Reserve a spot in advance as space is limited. Call 202-333-6200 or visit propertopper.com.

Go green at this weekend’s DC Green Festival at the Washington Convention Center. Your $15 admission gets you access to lots of seminars, lectures, and experts on green practices. Plus, there’ll be a stage featuring organic wine, beer, and cuisine. 11 to 6.

The National Gallery of Art is screening two films today from the 1920s: The Salvation Hunters at 2, and Children of Divorce at 4. The first, directed by Josef von Sternberg, is an avant-garde feature about three drifters aboard a dredge; the second revolves around young lovers played by Clara Bow and Gary Cooper.

Sunday, November 9: Stop by the Washington Craft Show at the Washington Convention Center, which showcases the work of leading craft artists from across the country. This year’s theme, “Making It Personal: Enhance Your Singular Style,” will be the focus of talks and consultations with fashion professionals and interior designers. Check out “High Fashion Meets Fine Craft: The Best-Kept Style Secret” on Saturday or any of the other events listed at craftsamericashows.com.

The National Portrait Gallery opens a new exhibit this weekend celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial—which is fitting, with all the election and inaugural ballyhoo going on. The exhibit looks at how Lincoln used the advent of photography and other media in his presidency. The museum is open from 11:30 to 7.
