Design Deals

By Daphne Retter

Anna Kahoe, who owns the furniture shop Good Wood on DC’s U Street, has one decorating rule: Every room should have something red in it. I’ve used this rule in my condo, and I highly recommend it. The resulting look is cheerier, and it helps ensure that your space doesn’t get too matchy-matchy or stylized. Plus, red is pretty!

Try throwing this pillow from Branch on your couch or bed. The look is polished and crafty at the same time, and it’s 40 percent off, at $59.

Gump’s also has a great little red accent for your living room or bedroom. This side table or night stand has a removable top so you can hide clutter or a throw blanket. You can get it now for 35 percent off, at a still-pricey $449.99.

If you want to go extra whimsical (kids room? den?), use these metal letters to make your own old-timey sign. The good news is that the price is down from $14 to $4.99, but the bad news is that not all letters are in stock.

Also, Vastu’s floor sample sale runs through Sunday. The sale, which offers deals of up to 50 percent off, includes items like a Knoll Saarinen side table, down from $475 to $379.
