>> See the full best of Fairfax guide here. Fairfax home prices have dropped a lot in the last year, says Ann Goss, a real-estate agent with Century 21. But she adds that the foreclosures and short sales that helped depress the market are starting to dry up. Detached houses in Fairfax City and the surrounding areas cost $450,000 to $900,000 or more, Goss says. A roomy three-level home with a two-car garage typically sells from the upper $500,000s to the mid-$600,000s. High-rise condo buildings are unusual in Fairfax City; garden-style condo communities are more common. Among single-family homes, three-level Colonials are sought after. Condos and Townhouses Centerpointe This community of 90 modern townhouses opened in 2006, and there are still 14 units for sale. Homes have rooftop terraces, two to five bedrooms, up to four bathrooms, and two-car garages. Prices range from $460,000 to $650,000. 4156 Rush St., Fairfax; 571-432-0110; eya.com/centerpointe.
Centreville Crossing More than 100 homes are for sale in this townhouse and condo community. The homes have fireplaces and hardwood floors and are within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. Two-bedrooms start at $280,000, three-bedrooms at $300,000. 14129 Saint Germain Dr., Centreville; 703-830-0693; ryland.com. Élan at East Market Residents in this condominium next to Whole Foods and Starbucks can choose between classic and loft-style homes, and more than 40 units are available. Amenities include a gym, business center, pool, party room, and Metro shuttle. One-bedrooms are sold out, but two-bedrooms start at $375,000, three-bedrooms at $581,000. 4490 Market Commons Dr., Fairfax; 703-968-3526; elancondos.com. The Four Winds at Oakton Five minutes from the Vienna Metro station, this building was converted into more than 350 condos, with about a third of them still for sale. The homes have granite countertops, patios or balconies, and fireplaces. One-bedrooms start at $180,000, and two-bedrooms go up to $304,000. 3170 Summit Square Dr., Oakton; 703-272-8600; thefourwindsatoakton.com. Kensington Parc About half of the 26 townhouses have sold in this community, which opened in August. The smallest model is 2,700 square feet, and three styles are available. Prices start at $620,000. 3981 Portloe Terr., Fairfax; 571-921-0280; nvhomes.com. Main Street Residences This community in Old Town Fairfax will include 36 townhouses; so far, six are finished. The homes will have three to four levels and two-car garages. Prices start at $670,000 and go up to $970,000. 10669 Yorktown Dr., Fairfax; 703-865-5220; courtlandhomeslc.com. Penderbrook Square This development has 88 one- and two-bedroom condos for sale. The units, with nine-foot ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces, are priced between $200,000 and $300,000. 3905 Penderview Dr., Fairfax; 703-246-0011; comstockhomes.com. Subdivision Pickett’s Reserve Eleven houses are available in this 30-acre neighborhood, including a newly restored house from 1850. The subdivision includes seven styles of homes and a 15-acre park.
