Big Lawyers, Big Houses
By
Mary Clare Fleury
Two prominent Washington lawyers cut house deals.
In Virginia, White House counsel Fred Fielding and his wife, Maria, sold this five-bedroom, six-bath Colonial in Arlington’s Country Club Hills for $1.8 million. The house has embassy-size entertaining rooms. Before joining the Bush administration in January, Fielding was a senior partner at Wiley Rein (formerly Wiley Rein & Fielding).
In DC, conservative pundit and radio host Laura Ingraham sold a three-bedroom, four-bath Colonial rowhouse on 28th Street in Woodley Park for $1.3 million. Built in 1922, the renovated home has an in-law suite, two kitchens, and a skylit master bedroom. Before launching The Laura Ingraham Show in 2001—which is broadcast on 340 radio stations nationwide—Ingraham went to the University of Virginia School of Law, clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and worked as a white-collar criminal defense attorney for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

You know, I think that these premium houses are not having any trouble on the market. If you look at the records, the $2 mill plus market is booming. It really seems like the housing slowdown is only effecting the houses in the sub-million range. Since the majority of consumer spending is done by the top earning percent of the population, that may be the saving grace of the economy!
Also, she hasn’t put it on the market, but check out the floor plans of Condi Rices Apartment at the Watergate at
