Mark Brunell Trades Up

Redskins $43-million backup buys in Great Falls.

With Joe Gibbs’s retirement, Mark Brunell’s future with the Redskins looks bleak. Regardless, it appears that the backup quarterback plans to stay in Washington.

After selling a custom home on more than two acres in Great Falls for $3.5 million, he spent $3.7 million on this new home less than five miles away. The new house has five bedrooms, eight baths, and a four-car garage. His old house, built in 2004, has seven bedrooms and nine baths.

Gibbs and the Redskins chased Brunell in 2004 and signed him to a $43-million, seven-year contract. But after a half season of inconsistent performances, he was benched in favor of Patrick Ramsey. Brunell’s now third in line at quarterback, behind Jason Campbell and Todd Collins.

Brunell and the ’Skins had a magical season in ’05 beating Tampa in the Wild Card game. His numbers that year were Pro Bowl worthy. Nonetheless, Campbell is the future in Washington. I would be all for Brunell as the #2 QB next season, albeit at a moderate salary.

Whatever Brunell decides to do, I am behind him. Thank you Mark for all the memories and for whatever your future holds.

Ponte Vedra Beach isn’t the same without you and either are the Jaguars. We need to get some "class" back into the organization. I’m sure #9 would love to have you back him up!

Too old and injured, but what a great former leader and person.

Come on back to Jax. Tony and the boys at the church are waiting for you.

maybe he’ll be the OC in DC

I think he would be a great fit back here in Seattle. He could back up Hasselbeck who rarely sits and that would allow Senmeca Wallace to do other things, WR and returns... Come on home Mark!!!

I think it’s time to hang it up for Mark. I have always liked hime but his skill set has taken a huge decline. Collins proved he should of been the one to take over

Brunell is better than a third of the starters in football. He has been treated unfairly the past two seasons, and should get the **** out of washington. 64 QBs started a game in 2007. Brunell was not one of them. He’s better than Todd Collins, and should have been given a shot. There are over 20 teams in the league that would wish to have this guy as their #2.

"But after a half season of inconsistent performances, he was benched in favor of Patrick Ramsey. "

Where did that statement comes from? Brunell took the Redskins to the Playoffs in 2005 for the first time in awhile and even won a Playoffs game. Ramsey has since been traded and sits the bench. Campbell has a losing record since starting for the last 1 1/2 years and has played terrible with a major turnover habit. Collins came in and won 4 straight to get the Redskins into the Playoffs this season.
