New Condo Spotlight: Cromley Lofts

Take a tour of a new eco-friendly condo building in Old Town.

By Kate Nerenberg   Published Thursday, March 06, 2008

A former warehouse in Old Town Alexandria is home to Virginia’s first LEED-certified condo building. The condos include a long list of sustainable features, including recycled pine floors, bathrooms tiled in recycled glass and limestone, and bamboo cabinetry. Carved out of an industrial structure built in 1910, the units are light-filled and open, with few walls—the bathroom is the only room that is completely private.

What: Cromley Lofts

Where: 1210 Queen Street, Old Town

Number of units: Eight—two one-bedroom penthouses and six two-bedroom units

Prices: Penthouses are $610,000;  two-bedroom, two bath units range from $535,000 to $645,000

Perks: Penthouses have a 2,000-square-foot rooftop deck with gardens and views of the George Washington Masonic Temple. Energy Star appliances, with features such as dual-flush toilets and water-saving faucets, save residents about 20 percent on their electric bill and 30 percent on their water bill.

Special touches:  Gas fireplaces, soapstone kitchen countertops, and marble bathroom sink countertops. Much of the original warehouse, including brick and wooden support columns, is visible inside the units.

Location: Two blocks from King Street, the condos are a five-minute walk to the King Street Metro stop on the Blue and Yellow Lines.

Sold: Two two-bedrooms have sold
