Estate of the Week

Every Wednesday, we take a peek inside the world of luxury real estate in Washington.

By Emily Leaman

Where: 3400-3410 Prospect Street, NW
Listing price: $30,000,000
Time on the market: 13 days
Bedrooms: Five
Bathrooms: Nine

Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, the Halcyon House was built in 1787 by the first US Secretary of the Navy, Benjamin Stoddert. Pierre Charles L’Enfant, the French architect who designed the District in the 1790s, designed the gardens, and Mark Twain’s nephew once lived there. The Georgetown mansion has more than 30,000 square feet and includes six separate apartments and townhouses. There are nine fireplaces, including a large one in the kitchen. The home also has a sculptor’s studio and an outdoor pool on a deck that overlooks the Potomac River. If it goes for the asking price of $30 million, the Halcyon House will set the record for the most expensive home ever sold in DC.
