Taking Some Design Cues: Remodeling & Home Decor Show

By Sonia Harmon   Published Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Remodeling your home? Want to learn how to be more environmentally friendly? Love the Washington Redskins?

If so, mark your calendar for the Remodeling & Home Decor Show at the Dulles Expo Center this weekend, from Friday, September 26 to Sunday, September 28.

You can browse decorating and remodeling ideas at hundreds of exhibits—from appliance stores to furniture lines and cabinet makers to custom home builders. HGTV’s Steven Whittle, co-host and carpenter on Bad Bad Bath and Save My Bath, will give tips on ways to live green and give tours of a 2,500-square-foot model of an eco-friendly home.

Redskins defensive end Demetric Evans will also be on hand to meet fans on Friday night from 7 to 9. Autographs and raffle tickets (for dinner for two with Evans and tickets to a home game) are $5 each and benefit his charity, 92 Blessings. Other attractions include demonstrations from billiards trick-shot artist Mike Massey and a quirky dog competition in which dogs sprint from a 40-foot dock into an indoor swimming pool.

The Dulles Expo Center, 4368 Chantilly Shopping Center, www.capitalhomeshow.com. Friday and Saturday, 10 AM to 9:30 PM, Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Tickets are $10, $3 for kids ages 6 to 12.

Thanks for the tip - I’m planning a HT room with the guys at www.smarterhometheater.com, who offer great free advice, but any ideas and inspiration are always welcome!

I always enjoy going to this show, even if i’m not in the buying mood as i’m always looking out for the latest products. Although this time around, i’ll look for contractors as we’re hoping to do a one-story and i need new gutters.
