Hey MadMan this is Robbed by Dionne - I posted here too. I am so glad that you put that info up there so people picket her. When I watched Larry King last night and heard her call in as an authority on Michael Jackson I wanted to puke. I am not that computer savvy but I am hoping someone out there starts a Youtube blog with any video they can put up to keep this going. Dionne hurt a lot of people and did not have the decency to send a rep to the lobby to help people. She stiffed the hotel too and could care less about her own people. She’s been on tour too, I do not know how she just sleeps at night. This was supposed to be a historic night for all of us attendees and yes it was, for obvious reasons but I truly do wish I had the $3,000 in my account that I blew on wasted Amtrack tickets, hair, make up,clothes, shoes, hotel fees, car service fees and more. I could have stayed home with family and friends, watched it, kept my nest egg and felt great that day. The ONLY reason I spent my savings like that was to be among other proud Americans that voted for President Obama, so we could exchange business cards, share stories and make new connections. Instead, I ended up with a lot of others, stuck at the lobby bar at the hotel, paying for my own food on top of the tickets I paid for, to watch it on TV.
Somebody - DO DIONNE HER DUE AND PUT UP A PAGE ON YOUTUBE!!!

Hey, I noticed after reading several of the blogs, that slomeone had the audicity to say that Dionne had nothing to do with the cancellation. Well to the contrary... oh yes she did! On December 29, 2008 by us postal mail I sent a personal check, enough money for both of the balls mailed to Dionne & Friends Foundation Inc. The check was subsequently cashed and cleared my bank on January 6, 2009 even before the inargural ball event. The Foundation lost their licensing three years ago. Is this fraud or what? Dionne had no right to accept other peoples money under her nonprofit organzation title. She is a crook!!!
If everything was on the up and up, then why haven’t anyone received their money back? I hope people realize that this is not the only scandal that Dionne has been involved in. Just google her name and read about several scandals in past years that she was involved in, and she continues to do the same thing. I have no love for b----.Don’t worry she is going to get hers. I think she must have forgotten that, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.....

Not only did I purchase 2 tickets to the Legend ball, but also 2 tickets to the Urban ball as well. I am literally out of $1,580.00. I live in California and checked with the small claims court in my county. I do have legal grounds to go after my money. They have advised me to check with the FBI. There may be a case open and we can join it. This is one battle I have choosen to fight! I won’t give up, Dionne Warwick and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges will pay dearly.......
I will work on a resolution to this scandal until I win. We have one year to file in the courts and I’m going to use everyday to reach my goal.
A quitter never wins and a winner never quits!!!! quits!!!!!!!

Hello - out there!!!
Has everyone received their refund? Is sure has quieted down. That’s probably what they hoped for. Any class action suits pending??? Hey , they know, human nature, that things will die down over time once we "get over" it.
No money has come back to me--what about you?
Posted by: Jamie, Feb 18, 2009 10:03:19 AM
Has it cooled down. Is anyone doing anything about the mess or are you all going to forget about it?
Posted by: jamie, Feb 13, 2009 04:58:37 PM
I am very disappointed in Dionne Warwick and any host that has not helped get money back! I went directly to my credit card company and they are filing dispute against the company bank.

UPDATE: The website is now officially shut down! So that crap about getting our money back was a lie!!! If anyone knows how to get to these people PLEASE POST IT HERE!!!

Given what the Obama Campaign and Presidency stands for (honesty, integrity, etc)...On the biggest night in American history, people were cheated and taken advantage of by a bunch of scan artists including Dionne. For those defending her, stop it. People in good faith paid their money for the tickets, bought expensive attire, transportation and deserved a party. Obviously, they had insights into the low ticket sales sooner than the day of the event. They took my money on 1/19 (Martin Luther King day, what a shame) They chose to get as much money as they could. I’m sure they are still on the hook to pay the Marriott (who got stuck informing upset patrons about the disaster...they did a great job) for the space, catering, etc. I agree Dionne and the committe should have been there to help explain. We need contact information to how to expedite getting our money back this week and not the 30-45 days that is stated on the websiet if that is true and not another lie. When are they going to learn that you just can’t treat people like this?
Posted by: Pat Smith, Jan 27, 2009 09:23:44 PM
If the organizers think we are going away or waiting around for 30 - 45 days to come and go they are sadly mistaken. I am out $2,000 and plan to get it back from somebody. The handling of this was so very tacky. Not even one simple apology. You can run, but you can’t hide. Bob Taylor, Sharika, Dionne and the whole crew including the Rose Group in California. We are coming for our refund!!!! Believe that!!!!

To SOMEONE WHO KNOWS!!, (posted Jan 21),
I was there - lost nearly $3,000 when it was all added up to go with my guest, hotels, train tickets, etc...I wont even go into detail.
Ben Vereen was in the lobby when we were sitting there watching the event on the bar TV because like many others who paid for the breakfast and brunch viewing - we had no where else to go, it was freezing out, we checked out our hotels and if we tried to go home we would have missed watching the historic event, so we sat at the bar and drank coffee, and watched.
Ben, stood there as the gentleman he is and defended Dionne saying she is devastated and had nothing to do with this. None of us believed it but knew that he was a man of honor and that this is what was told to him so this is what he believes...but we all thought they tricked him too. However, as I read your blog and choose to be open and think maybe you are correct, that Dionne had nothing to do with it I challenge you to think outside the box "too" for just a moment.
Consider this - "What" kind of person is Dionne Warwick for not sending a rep to the hotel from 8 am - 10 pm to sit in the lobby and explain to us who had no clue and lost so much in her honor, that this event was canceled, here is a number to call for refunds, please sit in the lobby for further instructions and offer even a cheap cup of coffee...something? Do you think Dionne is a good person for doing nothing? Do you realize that the hotel management was shocked that they were left holding the ball and had nothing to tell us? Where you aware that when we picked up our tickets the day before at 4 pm and others were still buying tickets on Dionne’s site at 11 pm that night before - she like all others knew that no party was going to happen? Do you still want to defend your friend Ms. D?
Can you not see that she literally abandoned us black folk in the subzero DC weather and because she did not do anything to stand by our sides we must hold her solely accountable? Why are you afraid to list your name then on this site if you love her so much? Why is she not updating her website with an apology video, a guarantee of returned funds, something more than sorry for the incontinence? Would you be willing to show us who you are - list your number so we can also hold you responsible since you are fighting for your friend more than she is actually fighting for herself? And while you are at it, will you also be explaining to us why she showed up at another event that night in DC while hundreds of folks in gowns got turned away in the cold at "her" event?
Before you fight for, defend and become a champion for Dionne Warwick remember one thing - the 80 year old civil rights fighters that were all over that lobby from 8 am till 10 pm finding out the terrible news as they arrived, on canes, in wheel chairs and barely holding on that wanted to be with their own kind did not get your Pro Dionne memo that day. You cannot pretend that the embarrassment, anger and disgust that we all felt is not real. If you know and love Dionne so much - then I know that I speak for everyone on this blog that is upset and lost time and money on this event, that WE CHALLENGE YOU "SOMEONE WHO KNOWS!!" TO GET DIONNE TO UPDATE THE SITE AND GUARANTEE OUR FUNDS AND TURN THE PHONES AND EMAIL BACK ON.
Now - can you do that? Or are you just talking the same phony thief based talk Lady D did as she pays off her $6,000,000 tax debt - oops...did ya know that too? So after you defend her phony ball - get your defense ready for the IRS as well. You are a cold hearted, sociopath to even dare challenge your brothers and sisters over this woman who has made no personal effort to get on the evening news and clear her name. Think about how utterly stupid you must be in your life to have a friend like her and not see that who you hang with is who "you be"
Signed,
Speaking for all of us "who know" that you dont know anything and probably were not even there. Or...is this a psychic network friend talking smack? Kiss all of our left out in the cold ..... fill in the blank!
Posted by: ShellyfromLA, Jan 26, 2009 11:27:35 AM
Well adding my two cents, I and two girlfriends from Michigan paid for the Brunch on January 13th. Funny they took our money immediately, but will take them 45 days to get it back. They have our credit card numbers as fast as they took it they can reverse it and give it right back. But I would also like to thank Marriott for bringing all of thier management staff out to break the news and also set up the screens and allowed us to crowd up thier lobby area to view the swearing in. Thanks Marriott - and Shame on You Dionne - we know you were upstairs while we were all down stairs reeling in our disapointment.

OMG! NO WAY! UNBELIEVABLE! FLOORED! DEVASTATED! Does not begin to express my feelings about this ball! I should have known it would be a problem when I paid extra to have the tickets sent to me overnight and did not receive them. I went to the hotel on the 19th. We received a message from a hotel correspondent that the engagement will be cancelled. We asked the staff issuing the tickets if this was true. They reassured us that the ball will go on. They stated, "There were 15 balls in the DC area that have flopped. We assure that this ball will go on." After we spent nearly $1000 on our gown and accessories, Paid $40 in taxi fees too and from the Marriott Wardman. We were regretably advised by the General Management of the Wardman that the event had been canceled. What is more upsetting is the promoter, Ms Warwick, Mr Bridges could not face the people they solicited the support of for months. They sent someone not associated with the Ball to deliver this upsetting information. The Gull, The Nerve, The BALLS, of her to show her face at another ball. This says to the supporters that she did not care. It did not affect her one way or the other. She was going to do her. One word, GREED! Thank God it did not shatter our inaugural experience. Unity and Love. It does add to the fact that "we" still have a long way to go. Ms. Warwick, The Promoters, please do us a favor do not throw any other events. You lack integrity. The little note on the website, refund in 30-45days. PATHETIC. Please do the right thing give the hardword working people their money back. Immediately! Where did this number come from? The wind. Please. You’ve insulted us enough. I want my $997.
Posted by: The Sylvester Girls, Jan 24, 2009 07:29:52 AM
I just want our money BACK! I purchase 5 tickets for the breakfast. My sister spent $2000 for tickets to the ball for me and our mom for our birthday and Christmas presents. Sorry Sis! you didnt go out because you were saving it all up for the ball. And were is Shericka the young lady that answered the phone? I spoke with her a week before the ball and nothing was said about canceling. WE ALL SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER TO PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM MS PSYCHIC HOTLINE!
Posted by: MAD AS HECK IN FLORIDA, Jan 23, 2009 04:32:51 PM
This was very unprofessional on how this event was handling. We learned about the cancellation on our way to the hotel from a call that I’ve received from North Carolina & it was confirmed once we arrived at the hotel. Yes, I was upset but not to the point where I allowed the hosts & organizers of this affair affect my purpose for being in DC. This was truly a historic event. This would have been a great experience for my 15 year old. I had to demonstrate that plans doesn’t always work out as planned and do not allow one selves to get caught up on disappointments like this. We made the best of it & still had a great time in DC. I agree with some of the other bloggers, regarding cancellation notice & refunds but let’s face it, many of us had purchased tickets before and found out it was canceled. Now the refunds are another story, that shouldn’t take 30-45 days to forward the refunds, it should only take 7 to 14 business days. The organizers should forward more detail information as soon as possible on their site as well as sending a letter with payment to each and every one of us who purchased tickets.

Go to Washington City Paper.com and you will see a blog from a tix holder who is attempting to file a law suit. This was wrong and rude of her and the ball organizers. I guess she thought no one would stand up and say something about this?
Posted by: Stanley, Jan 22, 2009 08:13:20 PM
Amex-American Express did not accept payment for the tickets---Only Visa, Mastercard, or cash were acceptable forms of payment for the tickets---SO THEY SAY
Posted by: Nowhere to be found, Jan 22, 2009 05:26:18 PM
I agree with the most recent blog. When the tickets were purchased, we provided them with both our phone numbers, cell and home, home addresses, and email addresses. Oddly enough, when the tickets were purchased using Amex, they were able to call us to get an alternative method of payment that same day. But yet they were unable to call us or email us when they KNEW that THEY cancelled the Ball.
An alternative plan should and COULD had been provided. What other balls accepted our tickets that night? Where were the planners of this event?
***PLEASE note an excerpt from an article in the Washington Post titled "Almost Famous: Yes, they can Party Too"---"Around her, teachers, government employees and nonprofit executives sip Moët & Chandon and nibble on prosciutto crostini as Ed Harris and Dionne Warwick parade past. Ball newbie Stephanie Day, 25, a special-ed teacher in the D.C. school system, says she found out at 3 a.m. Monday that her sister bought tickets. Day is decked out in a purple asymmetrical gown scored at the last minute at Nordstrom, and holding out hope that she might catch sight of one of her favorite stars."
Dionne Warwick was at the Purple Ball on Tuesday night!!!!
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TRAVESTY?

Posted by: Nowhere to be found, Jan 22, 2009 05:18:24 PM
The same thing happened to me and my family! We purchased 6 tickets for $450 each, arrived at the Wardman Park Hotel in our gowns and were informed that the event had been canceled. All of that hard-earned money wasted on attire and accessories…had they notified us at least 48 hours in advance, we could have tried to get tickets to something else.
The American Music Inaugural Balls planning team needs to be held accountable! Notifying your patrons only 24 hours in advance is unacceptable! Even if they do refund the money, it can never replace the stolen celebration of an important moment in history.
Posted by: Tiffany , Jan 22, 2009 03:20:55 PM
Many people did make special financial and family arrangements to attend this ball and traveled far distances. It is unfair and rude for people on this blog to make fun of them, and criticize because they bought tickets. Whether or not you pay $20.00 or $600.00 for a ticket you deserve to be treated with respect.
Ball organizers had the responsibility to at least attempt to reach folks by phone or email.
That is just common respect period.
Funny thing is they managed to contact the VIPs and celebrities who planned on attending despite the fact the ball organizers had ticket holders email addresses and phone numbers.
What was really tacky is that as of Tuesday they took down their web site, and checked out of the Marriot hotel before ticket holders began to arrive and left it up to the hotel staff to address the tickets holders. So thank you Marriot for doing their job and being polite and professional to all of us who arrived at the hotel.
According to a different article on this subject from the City Paper Blog, Marriot was kind enough to donate all the food to D.C. Central Kitchen. Again, the ball organizers left it up to Marriot to clean up their mess!
To Dionne Warwick and ball organizers, this was poor planning, management, and lack of consideration to the many people who bought tickets. Interesting you no longer list a contact phone number or web site where you can be reached?
Posted by: Mark, Jan 22, 2009 12:40:46 PM
We arrived at the ball dressed and ready to have a glorious evening only to find out after footing $400 for a hotel so we would not have to drive all the way back to Baltimore after it ended that the ball had been cancelled. After spending $900 for ball tickets, $400 for a hotel, elegant gown, tuxedo, hair, nails, etc. All told, we spend $2000 and no alternatives were given except for us to pay more money to attend another ball. This is criminal and if our money is not refunded a law suit will follow.
Also, if only a few hundred tickets were sold, it baffles me why it will take 30-45 days for a refund.

To YaYa,
Ha,Ha!!! If you recalled, this was/is an historical event. Did you not see the crowds at the Lincoln memorial to hear the performers celebrate this event?..did you not see the 1.8 million people at the mall to witness this historic event--people of all races, from all around the country, braving the frigid temperatures to be a part? That is what "celebration" means and Dionne’s ball was just one of the 100’s of balls where people wanted to share in the moment of history - a celebration that was well worth it...whether it was enduring for several hours the below freezing temperatures or perhaps spending $500 - $1000 for a ticket to an Inaugural ball. --- Like "slavery was abolished" ??? Is that something to celebrate?
Posted by: gigi, Jan 22, 2009 07:49:36 AM
And now the website is gone. When you go to http://www.americanmusicinauguralballs.com/ it gives no information. All it says is: "EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED!!!! REFUNDS WILL BE MADE IN 30-45 DAYS. We appologize for any inconvenience..." No contact information.
Posted by: NoWeCant, Jan 21, 2009 05:24:00 PM
Oh PLEASE, people. They didn’t market it well, it’s canceled. Move on to other parties, jeez. I mean, last I checked we are to elect a leader based on qualifications, experience, political savvy. I personally don’t care if he’s black or purple, old or young, male or female, tall or short, fat or skinny...can he run the country?! Now that he’s elected, blacks are excited a half-black man is in office...like suddenly slavery has been abolished. I’ll back him, he’s our president - but enough already with the "Yay let’s have a party and invite black entertainers and woo-hoo home-boy is prez". He’s President of the U.S. - dignify it and make it about him as a person, not his color.
Posted by: YaYa, Jan 21, 2009 05:15:16 PM
This is unprofessional. Bottom Line, individuals that paid there money for a service should have received that service or product or been given ample enough notice that this event was not going to take place. Some individuals showed up fully dressed to attend a ball to be told by the hotel that the event had been canceled. If this is not a scam it wreaks of one. Where is the money and why were the ticket holders not informed? Certainly contacted consumer protection and taking any other legal action is in order. Sad way for anyone to start off this exciting inauguration with the possibility of a scam.
If Dionne or anyone wants this to not look like a scam the appropriate steps to inform consumers would have been taken and even now should be taken. No one can even reach these guys at the telephone numbers given. The address on Thomas Circle is bogus possibly an apartment building. NOT GOOD!!!!
Posted by: Catalilly, Jan 21, 2009 02:34:04 PM
I am pissed. Like everyone else I spent money on hair, nails, shoes, etc. This was supposed to me my main event to celebrate Obama I was looking forward to this. I contacted the FTC and my lawyer. They gave ot tickets at will call the day before without a word of cancellation and the hilton staff said they continued to sell tickets even after they new it was cancelles. False advertisement and fraud. Anyone wiling to file suit holla. They can not reimburse a historical day like this ruined.

i thought dionne was a psychic... couldn’t she have foreseen this?
Posted by: steve jobs, Jan 21, 2009 08:35:35 AM
It just wasn’t right or fair to the people who were counting on this event to be their one big inaugural event. I traveled from NYC and my best friend flew in from Chicago. Many of the official balls you had to be invited to even buy tickets.
Someone asked if we can’t afford it how did we or why did we buy tickets. This is a once in a lifetime event so I thought it was worth saving and spending.
If they didn’t get enough people to hold separate balls they should have had one joint ball...old school meets new school. Or they should have found a way to get people who bought advance tickets in to another event...supposedly a lot of the acts went to the Heroes ball, our tickets should have been honored at that event.
But the worse part was that they assumed people would be able to check the website to know it was canceled. Luckily my friend and I had bought tickets to the also canceled brunch so we found out early enough in the day.
I’m trying to not let this ruin my weekend in DC. I hope we get full refunds including the will call fee. And I think we should get a personal letter of apology. Dionne’s name is her brand and her reputation and she should have made sure this event was together. The ultimate responsibility does fall to her. No one will remember the promoters or event organizers but they will remember that Dionne Warwick did not come through.

I am a super Dionne Warwick Fan., but I am very upset that poor planning was done. She promoted this event, and is ultimately responsible for this situation.
Where the hell do we go, and if you paid for your hotel by credit card. CAll and Cancel the the hotel charge.
Posted by: Carl Hill, Jan 20, 2009 07:23:30 PM
First of all, DIONNE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FAILURE OF THIS BALL!!!!!!!! This failure was a result of TWO INDIVIDUALS WHO DROPPED THE BALL FINANCIALLY!!!!! Dionne HAD NO PART IN PUTTING THIS BALL TOGETHER!!!!!! Dionne was here like all of the other celebrities, ready to put on a great show. Dionne was informed up to the final hour that sponsors were in place. Dionne, on her own dime brought her entire band in, from all over the country to perform at this ball, and suffered financially just like the ticket buyers and other celebrities in attendance. For all of you out there who think it’s free to fly, house talent and then put on a show, well that just shows your complete IGNORANCE!!!!!!!! This exceptional woman has the biggest heart and is always ready to give herself fully!!!!!! So, let’s not make uninformed assumptions on who is really to blame for this catastrophe!!!!

Posted by: gg, Jan 20, 2009 09:38:26 AM
It won’t be the first time we’ve been disappointed by Dionne and I guarantee it won’t be the last time! All of the entertainers should have pulled their resources together paid for the event out of their own pockets and charged a small $75 cover charge for the first 6,000 takers. This then would really have been an "Event of the People".....enough said because afterall......it is what is it and it aint what it aint!

To Lisa and Darn Shame,
I am baffled by the argument that you put forth. You claim that the ball was overpriced and one would have done better by purchasing tickets to a more reasonably priced event where celebrities are drunk and ambivalent--such as, as Lisa says, one of the official balls. Yet, according to your postings you bought tickets for THIS event. Why??
Posted by: Ella , Jan 20, 2009 07:34:27 AM
Bummer!
Posted by: mikequist, Jan 20, 2009 06:04:02 AM
I agree, That ball was too expensive.
The tickets should have been one price and resonable. Even a professional person with a half decent income such as myself, found this ball rather expensive at $450.00. But I decided to pay it and let it be my main event while in D.C.
I flew in from California and am very disappointed.
Also, the hotels should be ashamed of themselves for taking complete advantage of people with their room rates. I understand wanting to make money, but greed is down right selfish in these economic times. The people throwing these unofficial balls are greedy bastards.
The real balls/official balls that Obama is committed to attending, highest cost is $150.00.
People attending the official balls at $150.00 will receive authentic Inaugural souvenirs and gift bags.
We were paying $450.00 for drunk performers who would have stayed behind a velvet rope and thought they were too good to mingle with those of us who spent our hard earned money on them.
Shame on Dionne and shame on any of the performers who were or may have acted like prima-donnas.
They should have all paid their own cost in an effort to keep the ball afordable and they would have packed the house and the performers would have gotten great publicity.
Shame on them all and there is a hot seat in hell waiting for them.
Posted by: Lisa, Jan 20, 2009 04:44:04 AM
dionne’s one of the greatest singers, but let’s face it...everything she attempts to do either touches turns to shit or simply doesnt materalize. again and again her reputation has been tarnished, but like the old war horse she is, she continues to march on in the hope she can salvage her legangary status dionne.
Posted by: dan, Jan 20, 2009 04:42:27 AM
nothing
Posted by: lojo, Jan 20, 2009 04:02:37 AM
First of all, they kept talking about making it an AFFORDABLE Ball....or the PEOPLE’s Ball. What people? The tickets were $400 - $650!!!!! Where did they ever expect to get 6000 people who could afford that!!!! And I know they wern’t expecting 6000 Black folk who could afford that in these hard economic times. That’s stupid as hell and especially considering that there are many other balls going on at the same time!!!!
And where the hell is the money? Deja Vu???? Didnt’ this same kind of shit/scandal happen the last time Dionne Warwick gave an event in Washington, DC back in the day?
Really....this is crazy! Now how the hell are we and other’s who have paid our money, purchased gowns, got our hair, nails, and yes our weave hair and eyelashes too....now just what the hell are we suppose to do now? The day of the event, it’s cancelled and if we did have another $450-$600 Dollars to spend, all the other balls are sold out now, so we’re just screwed!! What was supposed to be an incredible experience in DC has now turned into a nightmare! What the hell??? No Ball after traveling all the way to DC!!!!
Bull! I don’t beleive this thing about low ticket sales. I dont’ care if they only sold 100 tickets. They could have reduced their gaurentee at the hotel to 100 people and if the celebrities were charging to perform, they could have found some who would have been happy to perform for free!!!
And why would it take 30-45 days to give the money back? Law enforcement should look into this shit right now!! There’s something lowdown about this!!!
That’s my take on it. I pissed the hell off!!! Why didn’t they check with other balls who might have had space and would have accepted the money that we’d paid for our tickets with Dionne? Then post a list of alternatives for us on their website, instead of the bull that they posted!! Outrageous!!
Dionne should have NEVER put her name on this without verifying that these people had their core corporate sponsors and the money and expertise to pull this thing off regardless of the low response, which they should have anticipated as a possibility and planned accordingly.
And Black Voices promoted this heavily!!
