Overlooked: The Best Missed Connections of the Week

Every Friday, for some fun reading, we bring you the area’s best Missed Connections on Craigslist.

By Jessica Sidman

It starts with a glance across the platform. Your eyes meet. He smiles. You smile back. And then... and then... he disappears towards Franconia-Springfield. So many missed connections take place on the metro, so this week is all about taking your Red Line romance from Friendship Heights to Union Station.

I think we both got on at Metro Center with a million Caps fans. You blonde, me Indian. I think I accidentally elbowed you in the head a few times because it was too crowded to even move my arms around. Anyways, I thought you were attractive. I wanted to talk but it was way too awkward in that setting. I would love to have coffee or a drink if you’re interested. Tell me what stop I got off at.

You squeezed up against her and elbowed her in the head, but talking was too awkward?

Red Line from Glenmont to Chinatown - Thurs. - w4m - 22 (MD/DC)

This was around 4:45 on Thursday evening. We both got on the train at Glenmont. You got off at Chinatown (or was it Metro Center?). I had on a black peacoat, jeans, brown hair. You had glasses, a black coat, and a pair of Sambas on.

We glanced at each other a few times but I didn’t know if that was just about getting bored on the train (on your part).

Wait, a black peacoat and jeans? And you have brown hair?!? That narrows it down to, um, everyone.

I look forward to each morning when I’ll see you step onto the train with your gorgeous red hair and red lipstick. You usually have a book with you. Something about you just makes me smile and I wish I could make myself get up and introduce myself but I think you might be engaged.

I guess I just wanted to tell you I thought you were beautiful.

Sweetheart or stalker? You decide.

Red Line Friday night, me with glasses, you with curly hair - m4w - 26 (Red Line from Union Station to Adams M)

We were on the Red Line and you were sitting behind me. You had curly hair, blonde maybe? I had the glasses and you commented on them, said they reminded you of woody allen. I thought that was funny and we chatted for a bit. I wish I would have gotten your name because you were really quite cute and funny. I bet you won’t read this, but what the hell- worth a try eh?

Beware of a woman with a Woody Allen fetish.

Jules?? Skins Fan? - 27 (Orange Line Metro Train)

You caught my eye crossing 15th street last night a little after 7 p.m., I first noticed your style and your beautiful long dark hair under a sharp black hat. You carried a large leather bag that had the Redskins Logo and the name “Jules” stitched in the side. Your appearance quickly became secondary after watching you for just a few moments ... you happened to also be heading to the metro so I had the privilege of watching you for a couple of blocks.

You stopped and spoke to a homeless man standing near the McPherson Square metro … you offered him some change and addressed him by name. You didn’t rush by him but you stopped to talk with him. When you spoke to him you touched his arm and you seemed so genuinely interested in what he had to say.

You boarded the same train as me (pure coincidence) … you seemed to be enjoying the music you were listening to. It seemed to make you smile and you looked like you desperately wanted to break out in dance!

I noticed that all eyes seemed to be on you. On a couple of occasions, you caught some people looking at you … you met their eyes with a most radiant smile. For that, I feel like you spared them the embarrassment of having been “caught” staring! There was a little girl that seemed to be quite taken by you. You waved at her and she waved back … you exchanged a few fun faces with her and, it seemed, her day was made!

My observations came to an end when you exited the train only two stops later, at Foggy Bottom (GWU).

So, I am not seeking you out so that I can be the creepy guy that wants to hook up with you. I wanted you to know that I thought that, not only did you exude profound beauty, but you seemed to have an even more beautiful heart and a genuine love for life and humanity. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about your presence.

Awww. We had to leave you with a sweet one. Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day after all.

Have you ever seen the SNL skit where the character / comic Nicholas Fehn reads newspapers clippings and makes comments about each of the headlines?

Yeah, this feels like that
