Summer in Washington: What Do You Love?

To celebrate our upcoming Best Of issue, we're asking you to tell us what you love about Washington in the summer. One lucky winner will get two tickets to our Best Of Party!

It might not quite feel like it yet, but summer in Washington is just around the corner. There may be a few things to complain about with the advent of summer in the metropolitan area—humidity, skeeters, and the crush of tourists—but summertime in Washington's got quite a lot to recommend it.

And so, to celebrate our upcoming Best Of issue, we're asking you to tell us what you love about Washington in the summer. Is it the free concerts? The way things slow down at offices all over town? The hilariously fluffy stories local stations come up with to fill the slow news days? Dining on the waterfront?

Send us your top five favorite things about summer in Washington; our favorites will get published in our July issue, and one entrant will win two tickets to our Best Of party on July 15.

So get thinking and please send in your responses by April 28—with the subject line "summer"—to sdalphonse@washingtonian.com.

I love the super hot days when there is a warning advisory of doing anything strenous. It makes the city a ghost town. Also, it makes it okay to be lazy and lounge the entire day. It also is a pleasure going out because no lines or waiting of any sort.

I love beeting the s*** out of anonymous bike couriers. Try it...it’s the best feeling in the world.

Top five favorite things about summer in Washington:

Leaving Washington for the lower Potomac (St Mary’s / Northern neck), because the rivers are too polluted around DC to go swimming.

Leaving Washington for the mountains of western Virginia, because there is no breeze in the humid concrete jungle of DC.

Leaving Washington for the Baltimore Orioles, because the new nationals stadium/management/team are horrible.

Leaving Washington for a country drive, because the metro is out of service, traffic is horrendous, and the steaming smells from Rock Creek and the Anacostia prevent me from rolling down my windows.

Leaving Washington…because the violent crime rate spikes higher then the Fourth of July firework show, which is also a hassle to attend.

hazy, hot & humid with a chance of thunder showers and no desire to be anywhere else in the world!

Drinking on a rooftop deck while it’s 80-90 degrees outside or watching the planes come in at Gravelly Point while playing kickball. Poking fun at the tourists who wear fanny packs! :)

Saturday/Sunday mornings on the Mt Vernon or W&OD trail! All the marathoners are out training, the team and training folks are out. People are walking their dogs! Love it :)

I love grabbing some ice cream at Giffords and heading down to the basin and going paddle boating!
