Who Should Be on The Real Housewives of DC?
Published Thursday, May 28, 2009
If you haven’t heard by now (and if you haven’t, we’re not sure how you escaped the media explosion of the announcement), Bravo is expanding its Real Housewives series to Washington.
“We’re tapping personalities who are among DC’s influential players, cultural connoisseurs, fashion sophisticates, and philanthropic leaders,” says Frances Berwick, executive vice president and general manager of Bravo Media.
Don’t know what the show is about? It’s pretty much what it sounds like—a reality show following the lives, loves, and trials of wealthy housewives in places such as Atlanta, New Jersey, and Orange County, California.
We want to know: Who do you think should be on the Real Housewives of DC? From the looks of things, it seems like Bravo is searching for anyone from politicos to socialites to trophy wives of Washington’s most powerful. But we want to know who you think would be a perfect fit. Leave suggestions in the comments below! More>> Capital Comment Blog | News & Politics | Society Photos

I think Stacy Lattisaw-Jackson would be good on that show.

Lynda Erkiletian from THE Model Agency, told me she is definitely one of the cast of the DC Housewives... anyone else got more info on who the other cast members are??? I love Lynda - but I got to tell you - I hope the cast is a little more hip and fun than good old Lynda...

my, my, my! for those who are saying: if you’re in the suburbs then you’re not in dc. yes, you’re all correct, but let’s not forget that some of the biggest movers and shakers of dc live in the suburbs, such as potomac and mclean. man, the prejudice we suburb folks face! :)

I think Bravo should tap the high end hair and beauty salons and ask their advice and possible mediation. The hot hairstylists in this town have all the power and influence. They can even persuade and recruit some of the more reticent women to accept Bravo’s offer.

In this town if you appear in this reality show you’ll end up losing your job before the casting is over. If you don’t work, your husband will lose his job and worse, his repution. Both of you will be unemployable in DC and no one will ever invite you to even a block party. So, the last episode of the show will be showing you while packing and boxing your belongings and loading them on the truck for the move to Nebraska. Or Idaho. Washington is like a secret society. So, as a result, the producers of Bravo will end up with 5-6 women who are not the representative of the DC women. Women whose highlight of the day is seeing President Obama at 5Guys Burger Joint.

I think the true powerful women will not agree to be on a reality show that shows an out of context portrayal of their personalities and their lives. The show will end up with some wannabe trash that will misrepresent the true DC. If Bravo is lucky they may end up with a couple of lawyers and lobbyist, but the rest will be the wives of some obscure or dubious media or legal personalities. I think tapping the wives of some prominent plastic surgeons may shed some light into which Washingtonians use botox or other facial enhancements. Boob jobs are not de rigueur in this town as most of DC women appear bottoned up and are unlike the Orange County sisters. You may also get more than the average ratio of brunettes in DC. Fake blondes don’t do well in job interviews in DC.

Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush

I agree -- if they’re not from DC, it should be real housewives of Northern Virginia or Potomac. That said, it occurs to me that DC society in many ways is based on discretion, which conflicts with the kind of lifestyle that the show has projected in other cities. It will be interesting to see who they are able to get.

Anyone from Mclean! How about the Rappaport’s?

Amen - Washingtonian means that you live INSIDE the district, not on the other side of the line.

I just hope it’s "real" DC housewives rather than wanna-be’s from the suburbs!
Reston, Chevy Chase, Arlington, Bethesda...you’re not DC!

How about Dan Snyder’s wife? I hear she’s a real prize.

I think in DC it’ll have to be a mix of ages that they haven’t seen in the other shows; because trophy wives and politicos can be so disparate, you know? That said, I’d love to see women like Cindy McCain or Mayor Fenty’s wife featured - people who truly ARE in, instead of just thinking they are.

Gone are the robust bureaus for the Los Angeles Times, Newhouse News, and other once-healthy news organizations. Digital media bureaus now are taking their places with as many reporters and plenty of swagger.
