The Tweet Beat: The Best Congressional Tweets of the Week

By Sophie Gilbert

You know things are getting ugly on the hill when people start making Jersey Shore comparisons. With confirmation emerging this week that the Democrats are going to try and pass healthcare via process of reconciliation (only they’re calling it a “simple majority” vote because it sounds better), the barrage of outraged and appalled tweets came thick and fast. But they’re boring and it’s nothing we haven’t seen all year, so we’re not including any of them. Sorry.

Luckily, there’s still plenty of other stuff going on. Pete Hoekstra, for example, is learning a new trade in case his run for governor of Michigan doesn’t work out, Jason Chaffetz is stuck in the crappy airplane seat AGAIN, Kendrick Meek is having a sandwich, and Gabrielle Giffords is making what we can only describe as “inappropriate” comments about cowgirls. And Paul Broun really needs to expand his cultural IQ. Just sayin’.

Judge Carter has no doubt that Texas is God’s country. I am sure many Texans concur. There is a song where when he dies the singer wishes to go not to heaven but to Texas.
