Burger Brackets: Z Burger vs. Ray's Hell Burger

Welcome to Burger Brackets, where we ask you to vote to discover the best burger in Washington. Today's face-off is...

Who makes the best burger in Washington? We're holding a March Madness-style, bracketed face-off to find out. Check back every day at 10 AM and 2 PM for continuing burger vs. burger competitions. And don't forget to vote for your favorites!

Well, Charlie Palmer Steak put in a noble effort in yesterday's Burger Brackets...sort of. Actually, they pretty much got crushed by BLT Steak's burger, 75 percent to 25 percent. So BLT advances to the next round. Congrats!

Today's 2 PM burger face-off pits a Tenleytown burger-and-shake joint against the little sister to Arlington's Ray's the Steaks.

Z Burger: The patties at Tenleytown's Z Burger are thicker and meatier than the ones at Five Guys, and the buns are made to order for the restaurant.

Ray's Hell Burger: This unassuming spot serves only one dish: ten-ounce hamburgers made from prime beef. It’s the same farm-raised meat—aged in house—that steak lovers line up for at Ray’s the Steaks and Ray's the Classics, just ground in-house several times daily.

Who makes the better burger? Vote in the poll below, then leave your thoughts in the comments. And there's still time to vote in the Five Guys vs. Fuddruckers burger face-off; that poll goes until 10 AM tomorrow.

This Z Burger vs. Ray's Hell Burger poll will remain open until 2 PM tomorrow, so make sure to vote early!

Why would you set the bracket up with no apparent seeding what so ever??? You’d think Five Guys and Ray’s Hell Burger would be favorites, yet they are going to square off in the second round?

I have tried burgers at two Z Burger locations, they are in the minor leagues compared to Rays and 5 Guys, I prefer 5 Guys because they are a well managed national chain, but Rays has the best in my opinion...forget Z Burgers, their burger is very tasteless, yes they are less expensive compared to the other guys, but remember you get what you pay for in this world..if you want cheap go to Z Burgers.

Z BURGERS PATTY IS ONLY 3 OZ IT HAS NO FLAVOR, AND SEEMS DRY,THE GUYS ON THE GRILL SMASH EVERY BURGER AND THAT MAKES THEM DRY. THE 5 GUYS BURGERS SEEM FRESHER, AND LOOKS LIKE YOU GET A 4 OZ PATTY, THEY ARE MUCH MORE JUICER AND MOIST, I HAVE NEVER EATTEN AT RAYS HELLS BURGERS, BUT I WILL GIVE IT A TRY...SO FAR I DO NOT THINK ANY PLACE CAN BEAT 5 GUYS, THEY ARE THE BEST!!!

Z Burger is casual dining:delicious burgers served up with your choice of fixings at near-fast food prices.Step up to the counter and pick a cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, all of which are prepared with fresh ground beef-one patty or two.Select from more than a dozen topping.Boardwalk-style French fries - either Z Style or Seasoned. You’ll be set for just $7 or $8.Grilled hot dog, or a grilled cheese or veggie burger or turkey burger. They also have over 75 varieties of milk shakes.

Next bracket is gonna be tough: I still dream about my first Hellburger, but 5 Guys scratches an itch that nowhere else in DC can reach. And why is Big Buns missing as opposed to the inedible Fuddruckers?

Ray’s Hell Burger is the spot!

@mystery - hi there. It’s been between anywhere from 600 to 800 thus far for each one, though the Fuddruckers/Five Guy one will probably get a lot more before that’s closed.

How many people are typically voting in each matchup? Just wondering if these brackets reflect more than 10 opinions.

this is no contest. Hell Burger wins hands down. In fact it should win over all.

Ray’s Hell Burger’s "Big Punisher" was the most delicious lunch of my life.

Z Burger sent me directly to the bathroom.
