Daily dispatches on the Washington, DC area's food, restaurant and dining scene.

Burger Brackets: Sonoma vs. Chadwicks

Welcome to Burger Brackets, where we ask you to vote to discover the best burger in Washington. Today's face-off is...

Who makes the best burger in Washington? We're holding a March Madness-style, bracketed face-off to find out. Check back every day at 10 AM and 2 PM for continuing burger vs. burger competitions. And don't forget to vote for your favorites!

And we're on to our second bracket in the Burger Brackets. What do you think of the match-ups? Let us know in the comments. When we've gone through this week's face-offs, we'll hit the second round—and we think things will get really exciting then. So keep checking back!

Today's burger challenge? Check below.

Sonoma: Hill-dwellers love the $15 burger made from dry-aged Maryland Angus beef, topped with locally-grown tomatoes, and served on brioche at this dimly lit wine bar.

Chadwicks: The $9 burger at the Georgetown branch of this friendly neighborhood pub is nearly a half-pound of charbroiled Angus topped with lettuce, tomato, and a pickle. On Mondays you'll find it for half-price.

Who makes the better burger? Vote in the poll below, then leave your thoughts in the comments. Then go and vote in the Matchbox vs. Union Street Public House burger face-off—that's open until 10 AM tomorrow.

Sonoma is the definition of an amazing burger.

Chadwicks is the best hamburger.

Chadwicks is absolutely THE BEST in Washington. A great place for a date and the best place to take the whole family. All are welcomed by Tom Russo!

Chadwick’s is the BEST. Owner Tom Russo is hands-on
and maintains its quality while providing a most welcome atmosphere. Friendly and with really good
employees.

If there is a bar or restaurant in Washington with a better burger (or a friendler staff) than Chadwicks, I have yet to see it.

I am a competitive eater based in Philadelphia, PA. I make several trips a year to D.C. and always stop at Chadwicks for the best burger in the Washington area! Any of my friends from PA that I know are traveling down to your city, I always tell them to go eat the burgers at Chadwicks! They definitely have my vote!

@okiestrat Thanks for the recommendation—we might do that come the second round. And thanks to all who are reading and voting!

Where’s the beef? Always best at Chadwicks!

Every time we are in the area, we stop at Chadwicks. The burgers are juicy, the price is so reasonable. The friendly ambiance brings us back time and time again. There are other things on the menu that are equally delicious. The employees make us feel like part of the family.

It takes good

Speaking of the brackets, they should be reseeded after the first round. Use either vote totals or percentages to shuffle up the second round matches to even out some of the second round clashes. Really, Ray’s and 5 Guys should be meeting in the finals not the second round.

Chadwick’s had the best burgers and the most fun bar environment when I went to Gtown in the 70s. Some things never change.

Whenever I am in DC, I head to Chadwicks. People are great, food is excellent- burger is done the way it is ordered which seems to be a lost art- and the atmosphere is spirited.

Chadwicks has the biggest, juiciest most delicious burger in town.
You can spend a fortune elsewhere and still not receive the quality of a Chadwicks burger.
