Burger Brackets: Chadwick's vs. Harry's Tap Room

With the elimination of several great burger spots, it's time to move on to the quarter-finals of the Burger Brackets. Today's face-off is...

Published Friday, March 20, 2009

Commenter slurpeeman made us laugh with his recent thoughts on what would happen if Five Guys got kicked out of the Burger Brackets by BLT Steak:

"Remember the explanation of what would happen if the Ghostbusters let their proton beams cross each other? That is the same thing that will happen if Five Guys loses this competition:

'Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.'
—Dr. Egon Spengler, Ghostbuster."

Well, even though we're still here, and none of our bodily molecules have exploded (uh, as far as we can tell), the unthinkable seems to have happened: Five Guys is out. Done. Finito. Totally had its butt kicked by what appears to be an unstoppable BLT Steak machine. We're sorry to see you go, Five Guys. There's always next year.

But moving on! There are even more Burger Brackets face-offs to vote on. Today's match-up? Check below.

And as a reminder, you can keep tabs on all the Burger Brackets and browse through past ones here

Chadwicks: The $9 burger at the Georgetown branch of this friendly neighborhood pub is nearly a half-pound of charbroiled Angus topped with lettuce, tomato, and a pickle. On Mondays you'll find it for half-price.

Harry's Tap Room: The cooks at Harry's Tap Room seem aware that their flavorful hamburger is one of the stars of the menu and treat it with as much care as they do their filet mignon.

Who makes the better burger? Vote in the poll below, then leave your thoughts in the comments. Voting for Harry's Tap Room vs. Chadwicks will go until 2 PM tomorrow, Saturday, March, 21.

Harry’s Tap without a doubt----who can beat a burger with Chicago flair??????? It is the best in our area!

I vote to Chadwicks. Never eat a burger so good.

Posted by: Adele Brunitto, Mar 22, 2009 07:06:49 PM

I vote to Chadwicks. Burger’s Chadwick is the solution of the problem of stomac. Great, delicious, big, and is the solution to the problems of the stomach and ... is cheap.

All I know is when we have celebrities/rock bands staying with us, I’m always calling the Burger Joint in Bethesda for delivery. I personally got to have an extra one last night, and I must say it was quite tasty, I now understand why they order in in all the way from Bethesda.

HARRY’S
Hands down and Buns up they run (onion) rings around anyone else with their burgers

Posted by: Stu The Traveler, Mar 21, 2009 06:38:00 PM

Harry’s bison burgers are delicious, and healthier, too. A quality product, and well priced, too.

When does the voting end. 230pm now and it’s still open.

Posted by: Seamus, Mar 21, 2009 11:32:23 AM

Aimes burger. A piece a crap with no guts. That what his should be called.

Posted by: Justice, Mar 21, 2009 09:19:32 AM

I’ve never had either Chadwick’s or Harry’s burgers

Posted by: Burrrrrgherrrr, Mar 21, 2009 09:15:33 AM

Chadwicks has the best burgers in town, and its supporters can even write in complete sentences!

Posted by: Mr. West, Mar 21, 2009 06:18:53 AM

Here in Texas, we know beef, bison, burgers and bull. One thing Bush and Barack agree on....Harry’s is the best burger, period.

Matty-poo, there’s no fix here. Deal with the reality. We, THE FRIENDS OF CHADWICKS have the better vote for the better burger. If we go to the paper ballot, your repeated voting would be banned. With that ballot, your Harry’s would be extremely embarrassed with under 10% instead of just plain embarrassed at 27%. We do not multi-vote, we just have more people who LOVE the Chadwicks burger. Besides, the Chadwicks burger is priced so cheap at $9.00, we can’t afford to pay anyone for our 73% edge. So eat your higher priced Harry burger and try to bribe more people at the mall and the airport for their votes. You can also chat with Five Guys so the six of you can try to figure out how to make good burgers and maybe stay in the Burger Big Dance a bit longer in future contests. I will, however, give you credit for your under-cow comment, very funny. Better luck next year.

It’s good to know that tradition prevails even in food contests. Just like the NCAA tournament, the fix is in and things like talent or a winning record simply don’t matter in these deliberations. I voted repeatedly for Tap Room and failed to budge the 27% result. Everyone knows Chadwick’s has paid for their 72% edge with an inordinate amount of side-fries and buttery-buns. For a real beef-experience look the way of the under-cow in this match up.
I’m reserving my right to vote in this contest for a paper ballot.

Hey Washington DC! At least you still have Chadwicks in a bracket! What a great burger. Number 1 in my book. By the way, sorry about Wednesday everyone.

You know, one of the best kept secrets in DC used to be Chadwicks. That’s why the KGB and myself traded secrets there over Washington’s best! A Chadwicks burger! In the event I ever get out, I’ll be back to enjoy The Burger Bracket Champion! CHADWICKS! Hopefully they’ll name a burger after me!

Chadwick’s is the best place for burgers and reveling with the crew.

Posted by: molly & rick, Mar 20, 2009 08:02:43 PM

Someone below stated that Harry’s has a suck weenie burger. Yuk! Maybe they should change their name to Harry’s Crap Room to pay tribute to that crappy bison turd of a burger. I imagine the mall and the airport locales are right near the pastures where they pick up their meat, I mean cow pies.

Posted by: Sal Minella, Mar 20, 2009 07:51:54 PM

So if I understand Ice’s comment, its about the location and has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Harry’s serves all natural fresh ground beef, hand formed burgers, cooked properly on a fresh baked bun from a local bakery. Chadwick’s looks and tastes like a frozen patty thrown onto a wonder bread bun. You can have the banks of the Potomac. I wonder if he remembers when Chadwick’s had a location inside the Best Western in Greenbelt or wherever the heck it was.

Posted by: Eat Meat, Mar 20, 2009 07:31:54 PM

Get over it. Chadwick’s wins going away

Posted by: tcd, Mar 20, 2009 06:16:26 PM

harrys wins by far their bison burger is way better than anything you will ever hope to taste. so my vote goes to harrys they are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the goodwork guys!!!!

Posted by: jessie , Mar 20, 2009 05:55:48 PM

Ta burger at Chadwick’s is best not only in DC but in whole world and thats fact! I should know!

Posted by: Black Widow, Mar 20, 2009 05:37:52 PM

Harry’s sucks weenie compared to Chadwick’s kickass burger!

Posted by: Tomjanovich, Mar 20, 2009 05:32:43 PM

I vote Harry’s. Last week I got a bison burger at the airport. It was so good that I got another one to eat on the plane.

Posted by: Ron , Mar 20, 2009 05:30:29 PM

You’ve got to be kidding, someone is stuffing the ballot box - Harry’s is the best burger and the rest of their menu is equally great! Vote Harry’s!

Posted by: Big Eats, Mar 20, 2009 04:48:41 PM

let me tell u this.... Harry’s Tap Room have an outstanding burger that u never have from enywhere else, trust me u gotta try ...

Posted by: dvt, Mar 20, 2009 04:43:41 PM

Harry’s is the best I mean can you say "yum!" to the bison burger? ’cause I can!

Posted by: Carol, Mar 20, 2009 03:39:59 PM

This contest is a sham with Ray’s Hellburgers gone.

Posted by: neil, Mar 20, 2009 03:35:35 PM

Hey, Harry’s is the best! And I can get that best burger done just right even at the airport!

Posted by: CJ, Mar 20, 2009 03:15:30 PM

Harry’s is it! Always fabulous burgers. And sometimes the great fries or sometimes a veg fresh from the farm. And a glass of real wine, not the usual stuff.

Posted by: Stephen, Mar 20, 2009 03:02:03 PM

While I like Chadwick’s, I have to give the nod to Harry’s Tap Room for the best burger - their Bison Burger is the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot!

Posted by: Chris, Mar 20, 2009 02:49:30 PM

"Now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land." The turtledove says Chadwick’s beats Harry’s Tap Room every time.

Posted by: Bob, Mar 20, 2009 01:23:28 PM

This competition is full of suck. I’m inviting the /b/ tards from 4chan to come over and make a mockery of the so-called Burger Backets. I call shenanigans! You know who else didn’t like Ray’s Hell Burger or Five Guys? Hitler. That’s who.

Posted by: Shido, Mar 20, 2009 11:32:53 AM

Let’s see - I could get a burger at the mall or airport, or I could get one done right for 42 years on the banks of the Potomac. Even Congress would get this one right.
