Matchbox’s mini-burgers cooked rare on those brioche buns are hard to beat. Despite efforts to order otherwise, I am drawn to them each time I go to Matchbox.

we should call this the bush / gore election burger competition - where the winner loses and the loser wins, via use of un-competitive means.....mind you they did not have the advantage of re-setting IP address’s and revoting.....

My favorite part is how the Elevation Trolls talk about how you can eat a cheeseburger (aka fried ground beef, cheese, mayo), french fries (fried in olive oil), and a shake (blended ice cream and cream) and "not feel all bloated" or "feel great when I leave".
Really? Is this place magical? Tone down the hyperbole, shills.

Central - its the best!

i live in Florida as well, but do travel to DC. I have had five guys down here.I had a chance to eat at Elevation and had a beef and veggie mix ,it was excellent,Fries were good and the milkshake was great....Not bad ,for fast food and I don’t have to suffer the consequences,of eating it!

No matter how good the burgers might be, it is evident that Elevation has raised up the public relations level

To: CCCC et all
Of Course, I did taste both burgers at both places!! But this is a competition, and we are here to judge which deliver a better burger, in a sense of culinary skills, right?? It is not about price or has to be organic. It is about the quality of burger they served on their menu at their respective restaurant for a while, not something made up just for competition purposes!!
We are here to vote for the best tasting burger!! And, this is a food competition/comparison in a sense of culinary world and not by the price or other factor either.
For the record, I’m not a big fan of burger at all!! Burger equal to bad junky and unhealthy American junkies’ fast food. But to give the best taste, appearance burger, I would say "Central". I’ve nothing against Elevation, but to be honest, organic doesn’t mean the burger is healthier or taste better than the competitive and eating organic doesn’t mean let you live longer by eating more of this High cholesterol/calories burger fast food!!
Having a high paid job or an MBA/ PHD doesn’t mean you are smarter!! Organic doesn’t mean healthier!! Abusive of eating organic foods and burger is a path to uncontrolled of many health problems in Western Countries!!
Don’t be too negative about, or screaming around!! It is just a Hamburger!! LOL

I live in Florida but always Elevate myself when I’m in the DC area. The burger and fries are exquisite.

elevation is sicker than cancer.
Posted by: wu, Mar 24, 2009 09:37:26 AM
central burger is the best in town i eat there twice a week. The burgers a good bottle of red wine great surroundings you can’t ask for anything better.
I think if you have not voted yet==vote the CENTRAL BURGER.
Posted by: lurch, Mar 24, 2009 09:19:06 AM
This reminds me a lot of junior high... everyone in their little cliques, voting for their friends. Get real and see it for what it is- a simple, silly popularity contest. Not everything is black and white, even in washington. Especially in washington.
There is no one "best burger". Everyone has different tastes and can afford different things. For the family of four that wants to eat better, Elevation is probably a great find. For the 350k a year lobbyist that skis in breckenridge or wherever, Central is great.
If you want to complain about pairing up two entirely different concepts (organic fast food burgers and high end sit down dining) you should be complaining to the washingtonian. On the other hand, that’s the point of the bracket. Sometimes low seeded teams and high seeded teams compete and there are upsets.
Another thing - people seem to always forget the value equation. Some things are really good or bad, depending on the price you pay. Is an $18 burger better than a $4 one? Probably, but they are catering to two way different needs and audiences. Assuming the food is good(and it certainly is at both places, given their respective prices), the battle comes down to who has more followers. And I guess, since Elevation probably makes more hamburgers in a month than Central does in a year, that Elevation has more burger customers and therefore more votes available to them out there.
And one last thing, this nonsense about resetting the ip address makes no sense. The original poster who was accused of it, why would s/he reset their ip address and post the same thing 6 times? It was clearly just a problem with the system not indicating to her/him that it was posted. No one is resetting ip addresses. The two competitors just both apparently have really good email lists and a lot of devoted fans.

We miss Elevation Burger. We moved to the midwest and so wich Elevation Burger would open a franchise in our neck of the woods! Elevation Burger’s really are the best!
Posted by: Lynette, Mar 24, 2009 08:43:19 AM
Wow, people really are crazy about the web with their conspiracy theories about voting. How bout we just face the facts. You don’t have to pay a lot to get a great burger. Elevation Burger is my preferred burger spot. Am I allowed to say that without being accused of participating in some sort of fraudulent IP address game, which I would argue is past the understanding of the average internet user/burger lover?
EB rocks for burgers and shakes. Bottom line.
Posted by: Martin, Mar 24, 2009 08:40:42 AM
Elevation is the best burger around and I **LOVE** that they have vegetarian burgers too. As a vegetarian, the other burger joints completely ignore me - not ELEVATION!!
Posted by: chiba, Mar 24, 2009 08:39:12 AM
Go Petey,
I have to laugh. your quote below
"I guess not!! Well go and eat your burger at Elevation that taste no different, probably taste worse than the burgers from McDonald or Burger King!!"
So you voted without knowing what Elevations burger tastes like?
I mean you have to admit it makes your post just a tad funny.
For the record, Elevation tastes Nothing like fast food, and is still the best burger in town.
Posted by: CCCC, Mar 24, 2009 08:29:34 AM
Hey,let’s face it,with Dawn as the sous chef it’ got to be the best in town. Three cheers for Central!!!!!!
Posted by: Joan, Mar 24, 2009 08:07:55 AM
Hey Chuck, Get a Life! No need for cheating here. Elevation Burger is simply the best burger around town. I’m sure the results will speak for themselves...
Posted by: Vito, Mar 24, 2009 07:42:11 AM
$18 for a freakin Burger, you people are crazy. You can call me cheap, you can call me frugal, but at least you can’t call me a dumbass
Posted by: james, Mar 24, 2009 07:37:36 AM
"Ya gotta cheat if ya can’t compete!" Take that Elevation Burger IP address resetters. Central clearly has a superior burger experience as has been proven in it’s win over Ray’s Hell Burger which is a pretty darn good burger. For my Burger dollars, ya can’t beat Central.
Posted by: Chuck T, Mar 24, 2009 06:55:08 AM
Central’s burger is great, I’ll admit. But maybe 25% better, and more than twice the price as Elevation.
All you conspiracy theorists need to get a grip. People love Elevation Burger. Deal with it.
Posted by: JG, Mar 24, 2009 06:51:37 AM
This isn’t a fair voting system for this competition in the first place!!! Elevation what??? Huh huh if it have to compared to Central. Obviously there is a whole bunch of McDonald Burger Queen’s here with a Bad taste bud that just screams out loud for Hamburger. Does anyone who actually eats at both side burgers, before opening fire up here like a Pro food critics/write. SHAME on a handful of you when comes to critics on food, particularly in DC. Does anyone here even know where Central restaurant located is?? Have you even try it there before and really taste the real art of food created by Michel Richard??
I guess not!! Well go and eat your burger at Elevation that taste no different, probably taste worse than the burgers from McDonald or Burger King!! How you can even dared to compare a restaurant quality food with a fast food chain here!?!?!?!?!?!
Central offer a very reasonable rate when it comes to fine dining in DC with excellent culinary food around that I have seen. I guess minimum of $30-$40 for fine dining experience would not kill you, right??? I’m skeptical, since most ...lol
Well, I am not so crazy about Central, but I’m a part-time chef myself and I did get on the plane and travel the world for culture and of course - for Good food!! Go Central!!!
Posted by: Go Petey, Mar 24, 2009 06:49:25 AM
While these popularity contests are fine, I’d rather spend time actually *eating* a Central burger, instead of spending hours on my computer, eating microwave popcorn, and downloading some Google Chrome bypass that allows me to vote repeatedly.
Best burger? The place that’s still in business in five years. And I think we all know who that’s gonna be. Central. Hands down. I’ll go vote with my wallet, thanks.
Posted by: Carol, Mar 24, 2009 06:24:09 AM
I agree with that Hup guy. The burgers are fresh, taste great, and don’t leave you with that bloated crappy feeling.
Posted by: Kovich, Mar 24, 2009 06:10:35 AM
People are more likely to post a negative comments then a positive one. Don’t be hating because elevation is great burger.
Posted by: me, Mar 24, 2009 05:23:18 AM
Ah get over it...I was tired and got a little confused when my posts weren’t showing up and kept getting error messages...not spam. Don’t be hate’n!

Just for the record - I was not trying to reset any IP address or anything. When I was trying to submit my comment it gave me an error but at the same time posting it. So I kept trying to post it thinking it was not working, and it ended up posting 7 times or so.
Sorry to all the conspiracy theories!
Posted by: Sarah Hillenbrand, Mar 23, 2009 09:29:54 PM
Can someone please tell me how many James Beard awards elevation burger have under their belt....mmmmm... good question. Well i know they just don’t hand those out like fliers at a street corner.......good point.......Central didn’t win because they got lucky....they are good at what they do. That is why i go to central every time I’m in dc. They have a good product and they are consistent. Even when it comes down to a hamburger. Keep the good work guys.
Posted by: Auggie E., Mar 23, 2009 09:07:53 PM
What a laugh this whole thing is......IP address re-sets and re-votes versus actual customer reviews on burgers.
The winner is...(wait for it)....he/she who stays up the latest, re-setting their IP address, and voting, again and again....shame Washingtonian, Shame.
Posted by: CarlHalvo, Mar 23, 2009 08:45:37 PM
I agree with Allison - so obvious that there is something hinky going on with the voters of Elevation Burger -- just like Sarah Hillenbrand posting her comment 6 times, she probably voted 6 times or more too by resetting her IP address (look at the times her comments posted - 05:28:00 PM, 05:28:31, 05:29:26, 05:30:03, 05:31:13, 05:35:50). Central burger voters are not hate’n at all, they just don’t condone cheaters. If Elevation has beaten others by a huge margin, there is a valid reason, and it is not b/c the burger is good. Washingtonian - wake up to the cheating that is clearly going on!!!!

Central is the bestttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Burgermaniac, Mar 23, 2009 07:57:50 PM
Its a joke!Of course Central burgers are the best...buns made twice a day with olive oil,the crispy potato tuile, tomato confit slowly with garlic and the most juicy beef cook to the perfection!!
and elevation burger soft bread, raw slice tomato, and the meat always cook between med well and well done ! it is sad people cannot see the difference....
Posted by: Dadou De Segre, Mar 23, 2009 07:54:48 PM
Ya these must be the same people who faked the moon landing... Wow it must be a conspiracy that a place that makes only burgers is some how winning a BURGER competition.
Bottom line:
Elevation makes a pretty good burger (still like the 5 guys fries though)
Posted by: Tim, Mar 23, 2009 07:35:44 PM
Interesting that the pro-Elevation Burger comments are replicating (Sarah Hillenbrand). That’s a common byproduct of the kind of replication/masking software that allows voters to vote hundreds of times.
Fair?
Posted by: Allison, Mar 23, 2009 06:54:24 PM
Elevation has a great burger that doesn’t make you feel poorly about yourself after you eat it. And there Coffee Bananna Shake is fantastic
Posted by: Hup, Mar 23, 2009 05:56:02 PM
