Chew on This: Who Makes the Best Wings?

By Kate Nerenberg

In the last week, you may have been spending lots of time at the bar watching the madness that is the NCAA tournament. We think the best thing to snack on is a big basket of chicken wings—especially the sauciest kind that turn your fingers orange and set your mouth on fire. There’s so many wings in Washington, we need your help to find the best. What’s your go-to bar or restaurant for some tasty ones?

We are huge wing lovers, and have found that Hard Times never disappoints.

I love WOW Wingery in Bowie.. freshest wings ever, worth the long wait! (my advice: call in the order before you pick it up)

I have always been a fan of Wingo’s in Georgetown. Order them extra crispy!

Cluck-U-Chicken in College Park, MD is the best, second to none.

I would have to say Austin Grill. Among other things, they’re the only place I know of that grills their wings (no frying first).

Hands down, best wings in the city: Mr. Henry’s Restaurant on Capitol Hill.

There are no good wing places in DC. There are some places where you can order mediocre to good wings, but no good wing joints. (there may be some in the suburbs, but honestly who goes to Annandale?)

Nando’s Peri Peri makes some pretty good wings.

For delivery - I like Armand’s (not the hugest fan of the pizza but their wings are great!)

Hard Times in Rockville... Grilled Texas Wings are the best. There is just no comparison!

Bon Chon Chicken in Annandale,VA. Ever seen a travel show on Korea, Anthony Bourdain would definitely agree that Korean chicken wings at teh best on earth. The place also looks like an upscale lounge in DC. Great crispy wings, not greasy. One napkin will get you through flavore country.

Bon Chon Chicken in Annandale, VA has the best wings in the city hands down. If you ever seen a travel show a la Anthony Bourdain style about Korea then you know that that country is crazy about chicken wings. The chicken wings at Bon Chon are unbelievable crispy, have great flavor, I like the hot, and aren’t greasy liek most wings. On napkin will get you through a whole plate of them.

Korean chicken wings at Bon Chon, hidden secret of DC, best in the city.

Lola’s on 8th Street SE has ridiculously plump and juicy Old Bay wings. Ben’s Next Door (next door to ben’s chili bowl) has seriously good spicy wings, too.

(’Tunnicliffs.’ Just sayin.)

Wing Hub in Bethesda... they are new, but have great wings, and great deals

Posted by: scotto, Mar 24, 2009 09:23:11 AM

Would definitely second the vote for Hard Times. They’re delicious - especially the grilled inferno wings. The inferno choice isn’t on the menu but definitely worth it if you love fiery wings.

The Big Hunt’s, especially on Tuesday night when they’re 15 cents each.

Posted by: Emily, Mar 24, 2009 08:29:43 AM

Big Hunt’s aren’t bad -- and bonus, on Tuesday nights, they’re just 15 cents!
