Burger Brackets: It's Time for the Semi-Finals!

We're on to the final four in the Burger Brackets. Who'll make it through to the finals? Who will be cast aside? Vote now for your choice.

Published Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Well, folks, here we are. After several weeks of frenzied voting, of up-and-down face-offs, of two burger legends getting kicked out far earlier than anyone anticipated, we've finally made our way to the Burger Brackets quarter finals. The final four. Who's left? We've got...

BLT Steak

Elevation Burger

Chadwicks

EatBar

And with that, let's kick off the quarter-final voting. Today's match-up will stay open until 2 PM tomorrow, and then we'll announce the next face-off, which will be open until Friday at 2 PM. And then, we'll have reached the finals! Voting for the final face-off of the Burger Brackets will stay open a whole week.

So! Without any further ado, today's match-up is...

Just a reminder: you can keep tabs on all the Burger Brackets and browse through past ones here.

BLT Steak: The juicy $16 lunchtime burger at BLT Steak is made from Black Angus beef and served on an old-school sesame bun.

Elevation Burger: This Falls Church burger joint, known for its organic burgers and olive oil-cooked fries, crushed (we repeat, crushed) its competition earlier in the brackets. Its devoted followers turned out in hordes, flooding our comments boards.

Who makes the better burger? Vote in the poll below, spread the word to your friends, then leave your thoughts in the comments.  Voting for Elevation vs. BLT Steak will go until 2 PM tomorrow, Thursday, March 26.

Keep tabs on all the Burger Brackets here.

BLT is a great restaurant.

Elevation is "good for you"? Really? I don’t care how organic something is... it can be the most organic burger and fries ever served in the history of humankind. It’s a cheeseburger, potatoes fried in olive oil, and a milkshake (which, if you didn’t know, is ice cream and milk/cream).

IT’S NOT GOOD FOR YOU. You sound like an 8 year old arguing that pizza has all four food groups.

Definitely Elevation Burger. Definitely

Posted by: Amanda, Mar 27, 2009 05:50:46 AM

Elevation Burger!

Posted by: Burgerman, Mar 26, 2009 02:40:16 PM

Elevation burger-best taste and best value-and it’s good for you.

Posted by: joe jerkovich, Mar 26, 2009 02:34:21 PM

Love EB! Especially the fries!

Posted by: Mike, Mar 26, 2009 02:05:45 PM

THE FARCE IS OVER!

I do appreciate a burger from Elevation and have never even heard of BLT, but I’m so glad Elevation has finally been removed from this competition. Its previous two wins (Central and Ray’s) were preposterous...

Posted by: Mike, Mar 26, 2009 01:26:45 PM

You can’t beat ELEVATION BURGER. Great taste and organic, too. The malts are the best and those fries....what’s better than potatoes deep fried in olive oil.

Posted by: Neil, Mar 26, 2009 11:29:30 AM

The final vote count was BLT’s 5337 to Elevation’s 5141. Close all the way.

Posted by: Catherine (washingtonian.com), Mar 26, 2009 11:28:53 AM

Or, to ask the question more precisely, by how many votes was the BLT auto script programmed to beat elevation by?

Posted by: davidoff, Mar 26, 2009 11:27:24 AM

Hey Washingtonian, what was the final vote count for this Bracket?

Posted by: Nick, Mar 26, 2009 11:12:32 AM

Hey Washingtonian, what was the final vote count for this bracket?

Posted by: Nick, Mar 26, 2009 11:10:23 AM

$16 is pretty reasonable for a burger and fries at BLT. Please, anyone that lives here knows what the cost of living is. And besides, it’s real quality and you know what you are getting.

Posted by: Corrine, Mar 26, 2009 11:03:26 AM

Elevation Burger

Posted by: Amy Westhoff, Mar 26, 2009 11:01:35 AM

$16?!? For a feakin’ burger?!? Seriously? Having grown up in the D.C. area, and lived in all 3 jurisdictions, I don’t suffer from the VA vs. MD animosity. However, you can get some pretty awesome steaks in NOVA for $16. It’s Elevation Burger all the way!!!!!!!

Posted by: smirn, Mar 26, 2009 10:42:56 AM

The burgers at BLT are delicious and the best
in the city.

"
... if a sports star wins, people say he’s on steroids
... if a car wins a race, it must have cut a corner
... if a movie star gets big, they must have a connection in the industry "

Oh, Martin.... duh. A-Rod, Jeff Gordon, everyone who’s ever been in a movie, because getting big involves being connected.

You don’t even get points for effort on that one.

Posted by: Allison, Mar 26, 2009 10:12:13 AM

Rager,

I have to laugh. I am huge Elevation fan, but they are on the ENTIRE wrong side of the river. Not to make things any more heated here but seriously VIRGINIA?

I am gonna make a confession here. I have never had a burger that I did not love in one way or another.

BBQ anyone?

Posted by: C, Mar 26, 2009 10:11:12 AM

You just can’t beat BLT’s burgers. Hands down.

Posted by: Burger Critic, Mar 26, 2009 10:09:37 AM

Rock on BLT, rock on BLT!!!! You’re burgers are the best...WIN!!!!

Posted by: Burger lover, Mar 26, 2009 10:06:10 AM

@THIS is a JOKE Ever heard of a mailing list? Geeze.. you people need to chill out about the "cheating" accusations. Talk about a witch hunt.

FYI: I’d love to see the updated results, but am not going to re-vote to do so. Seems like a flaw in the site that encourages voting again. And you know what? WHO CARES? This is a popularity contest, and rabid fans = popularity.

Posted by: JG, Mar 26, 2009 09:12:28 AM

The real travesty is that now I have to go to Virginia?!? to try this killer burger. And of course, to be fair I should go back to BLT to try their burger again.

The best part of this debate/contest is that these great places are getting so much attention.

I agree with Martin, we need to lose the animosity and appreciate the fact that we have so many great options for burgers in town and that we have the luxury of enjoying them.

Posted by: Rager, Mar 26, 2009 09:04:43 AM

a scam obviously elevation burger is voting over and over again.

Posted by: miss burger eater, Mar 26, 2009 08:14:35 AM

I love the comment saying that "organic burgers" are a "scam." Umm... they’re not a scam. They come from cows raised according to USDA organic standards, which I assure you are extremely strict and rigorously enforced. Elevation Burger is like an eco version of In-N-Out, which is basically the highest praise this Californian can give.

Posted by: JennX, Mar 26, 2009 07:55:31 AM

When do we get to vote for BLT’s Tuna Tartar?

Posted by: Xandraki, Mar 26, 2009 07:43:48 AM

BLT has the best burgers in town hands down. Nothing beats the high quality beef and a true classic burger perfectly cooked each time.

Posted by: burgertester, Mar 26, 2009 07:32:56 AM

Get Real. Nothing compares to Houston’s

Posted by: Bobbslade@aol.com, Mar 26, 2009 07:23:46 AM

I personally love Elevation Burger, and voted once, just like I’m sure most everybody else did. For those that are paranoid about potential nerdy Elevation Burger fans "resetting their cookies"...

... if a sports star wins, people say he’s on steroids
... if a car wins a race, it must have cut a corner
... if a movie star gets big, they must have a connection in the industry

I feel like we as Americans naturally have this tendency to be jerks to one another and assume the worst in everybody. Elevation Burger fans are loyal, and it is no surprise to me that they are rallying to spread the word about a place they all enjoy.

Come on, lets get real, vote and comment fair, pertaining to your good opinions of your favorite burger place, and all around stop being tools to each other.

Posted by: Martin, Mar 26, 2009 06:44:13 AM

Elevation burgers are fine, BLT’s burger is simply the best. Best quality meat, bun, cheese, everything. You cant compare a gimmick with a classic. By the way all these places are lucky they aren’t up against BLT Burger, the BEST burger restaurant ever, if we’re lucky they’ll open one here.

Posted by: Julian, Mar 25, 2009 09:20:21 PM

BLT burgers are so good - I really hope a BLT Burger opens here, it will kill any competition.

Posted by: Kevin, Mar 25, 2009 08:32:46 PM

I love the burgers at BLT...It is the only burger that is delivered exactly as ordered...no grease...so after-taste of cooking oils (often over saturated).///and one major factor that makes it #1...the treatment from the entire staff...managers, hosts servers reflects the quality of the burger.

Dr. Ben Burger eater!

Posted by: Dr. Ben, Mar 25, 2009 07:04:28 PM

BTW- I actually like both places...

Posted by: Mike, Mar 25, 2009 06:37:36 PM

Wow, so much hate! Do you all work for BLT?

Posted by: Mike, Mar 25, 2009 06:34:43 PM

This contest is a total JOKE. One minute BLT is winning 75% to 25% and then an hour later they are losing. How many computer geeks can elevation burger find to sit at a computer all day and night to vote over and over again while they keep on resetting thier cookies on their computer. BLT’s burgers are so much better than elevation it isn’t even close. BLT’s voters are out eating at BLT while elevation’s voters are busy playing the role of computer geek.

Posted by: THIS is a JOKE, Mar 25, 2009 06:12:15 PM

Elevation Burger spends too much time on talking about what they don and not delivering on product. Too long to wait, average burgers with good marketing. Maybe they should hop out from behind the computer and taste what they make...

Posted by: baconboy, Mar 25, 2009 06:06:42 PM

Ive eaten at both places and respect them for what they are and are trying to accomplish.
However over the long haul Elevation burger has my vote. I sometimes have to leave because the place is so jammed at lunch. Its a winner.

Posted by: Falls Church Res., Mar 25, 2009 05:25:40 PM

People are paranoid about there burgers... BLT overrated, over priced, and a nice place to take a date.
Ate at a burger place today and I am still regretting my decision 6 hours later. Elevation is something different and not greasy.

Now go take your prozac

Posted by: Hup, Mar 25, 2009 05:25:01 PM

BLT hands down. Elevation is a scam - whoever heard of an "organic" hamburger? Fried food is fried food. What a bunch of twisted propaganda trying to sucker us in with an "organic" gimmick. Elevation is the all star wresling of the burger world - all show, no go.

Posted by: The Arnold, Mar 25, 2009 05:08:49 PM

Elevation burger? How in the heck did this greasejoint ever make it into the competition? They’ve got exactly, ummm, ONE store. The burgers are overpriced and greasy, as are the fries. Now BLT, THAT’S a good burger. Fries are average but the burgers are GREAT!

Posted by: Chuckie, Mar 25, 2009 05:02:57 PM

BLT..BLT...BLT. Really, it’s no contest. $16 and a rocking burger, fabulous fries and super cool restaurant.

Posted by: Sidney, Mar 25, 2009 04:57:26 PM

BLT...no question

Posted by: Michele Obama, Mar 25, 2009 03:25:13 PM

I think the fact that Elevation is holding it’s own against these over-priced, over-dressed, over-fussed places is testament enough that they deserve to win.

What’s a better car, a $250k Ferrari or a $40k Lotus? My answer: if there’s any question, the Lotus wins on sheer value. Same logic with Elevation.

Posted by: JG, Mar 25, 2009 03:00:14 PM

BLT Steak has the best burgers...and the staff is uber friendly too!
Ya’ll should try one asap!!!

BLT Steak has the best burgers...and staff to boot!
Ya’ll should give it a try asap!!!

Posted by: Britney Spears, Mar 25, 2009 02:48:21 PM

Organic and Delicious. Need i say more?

Posted by: Burger_Fan, Mar 25, 2009 02:48:15 PM

BLT is only winning because they are spamming everyone to vote.

Posted by: Chris, Mar 25, 2009 02:45:01 PM

I highly encourage burger lovers everywhere to try Chef de Cuisine Victor Albisu’s special burgers...and you’ll understand why there is NO contest at all!!! BLT is hands down--the BEST. Period.

Posted by: Hida, Mar 25, 2009 02:30:39 PM

BLT is everything else rolled into one. While the Falls Church eatery may have a very loyal following, BLT is by far the more well rounded of the two and caters to a far broader strata of culinists who relish the high standards of a not too over the top dining experience that embodies high marks for excellent service, extremely consistent quality and a huge follwing from all parts of the world. Its worth going over and again. BLT is the best in taste buds tittilation. Hope you win by a large margin.

Posted by: Greg Wheaton, Mar 25, 2009 02:04:14 PM

BLT burgers are sooooo good, they really cannot be beat. The restaurant is fabulous!!!!

Posted by: Suzanne, Mar 25, 2009 02:00:23 PM

Sorry, but BLT hands down!

Posted by: DontWorryAboutIt, Mar 25, 2009 01:47:34 PM

What about Hell Burger in Rosslyn?

Wait...don’t go there...it’s too crowded and good.

Posted by: Jason, Mar 25, 2009 01:14:16 PM

This whole thing is silly. How many of the voters have actually eaten both of the burgers that are competing against each other?

Posted by: Aaron, Mar 25, 2009 12:42:26 PM

Yes, we meant Elevation Burger. My bad! The fix should be up in two seconds.

Posted by: Catherine (washingtonian.com), Mar 25, 2009 12:01:31 PM

they mean elevation vs blt, right?

Posted by: s, Mar 25, 2009 11:53:11 AM
