Table to Table: The Week in Food Events

Wine tastings galore, a pig cook-off, and grilling tips from a Top Chef are taking place this week.

Wednesday, May 27
Capitol Hill cocktail parlor Wisdom (1432 Pennsylvania Ave., SE), hosts “Summer Whites: Wines to Drink on the Patio,” a class featuring eight to ten thirst-quenching wines suited to the summer heat. Besides the wine tastings, cheese and bread plates will also be offered. The class, which goes from 7:30 to 9, costs $25 per person. Call 202-543-2323 for reservations.

Thursday, May 28

GiraMondo Wine Adventures presents “Icon White Wines of the World” at the Whitemore House (1526 New Hampshire Ave., NW). During the class, which starts at 6:30, guests will compare white varietals from different regions of the world. Cheese and light appetizers will be served with the wine. Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31
Sample bottles from 20 Maryland wineries at the Chesapeake Bay Wine Festival in Terrapin Park (191 Log Canoe Cir., Stevensville). The festival will feature live music and a row of vendors selling everything from fine jewelry and art to photography and ice cream. The festivities go from noon to 6 both days. Sunday, May 31

Learn about wines from the Colli Orientali del Friuli region of Italy at Cork wine bar (1720 14th St., NW). Italian winemaker Giogio Colutta will lead the tasting, which starts at 3 and costs $25 per person. Call 202-265-2675 for reservations.

COCHON 555
, a national chef competition that involves preparing a heritage breed hog, is coming to Washington. Brian McBride (Blue Duck Tavern), RJ Cooper (Vidalia), Nicholas Stefanelli (Mio), Jamie Leeds (Commonwealth), and John Manolatos (Cashion’s Eat Place) will compete for best creativity, classic preparation, and overall best flavor. The winner will be crowned the “Prince of Porc.” The competition, which will be held at CityZen the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (1330 Maryland Ave., SW), runs from 5 to 8. Tickets are $125. Top Chef
contestant and Alchemy Caterers owner Carla Hall will be dishing out grilling tips at Wagshal’s Market (4845 Massachusetts Ave., NW) as part of DC’s Grill Masters series. Entrance to the event, which runs from 11:30 to 12:30, costs $10. For reservations, call 202-363-0884.
