Tweet Us Your Restaurant Week Eats

We want you to tell us how your Restaurant Week is going.

By Kate Nerenberg

Related:

It’s the first day of DC’s summer Restaurant Week (see our menu guide here), when lots of the city’s eateries have special three-course lunch ($20.09) and/or dinner ($35.09) menus—a chance to try some of the best restaurants in town for a fraction of the price. Some places allow diners to choose from their regular menu, while others offer a paltry list of choices with the only attractive dishes bearing a surcharge.

Our food and wine editor, Todd Kliman, gave you his picks for Restaurant Week, and now we want you to weigh in on your experiences. Where did you score a great deal, and where did you feel ripped off? Which restaurants were generous with portions and menu offerings, and which ones skimped? Did your meal feel relaxed or rushed? Every morning, we’ll ask you to tweet @bestbitesblog with your reports from the day before (use the hashtag #DCRW). If you’re not on Twitter, feel free to leave your thoughts in our comments below.

(Psst—you can also follow Washingtonian on Twitter here, and food and dining editor Todd Kliman here.)

August 27 Restaurant Week updates:

Vynuss: So last night #DCRW, went to Marrakesh palace... ambiance and belly dancers = great :) ! Food= dry and bland. No more Moroccan for me. :(

jlsprinkelbug: went to the oval room last night for #DCRW...good. the striped sea bass was great!!

JennaDC: #dcrw dinner & service last night @ poste was amazing. desserts were so yummy. m. and i loved all the local, seasonal ingredients.

mollytics: I had an awesome meal w/ @WillBlog4FoodDC @ PS 7's. Great menu, excellent options, happy/helpful staff, 2 thumbs up

ranagan: #DCRW @ Zola - food was spectacularly good; server acted like he was fresh out of TGIFridays. Actually said "Wünderbar!" more than once.

emilyromans: Is it possible that I"m still full from last night's dinner at Il Mulino? Try the tilapia folks, you'll thank me later.

tutakalaka: Lunch at PS7 good, but service not great. Sarah's Salad, Short Ribs & Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar a steal at $20.09 ($34 regularly).

ranagan: Oyamel's seared scallops with pepita sauce ... So effing amazing.

BeccaClaraLove: Dinner at PS7's tonight. Let's hope it's better than DC Coast, which was not as amazing as expected. Yeah, I said that.

tutakalaka: Had #DCRW lunch at PS7; short ribs are greatn peanutbutter choco bar beats red velvet and blueberry betty for dessert

ImMissNTexas: I am full as a tick thanks to @RosaMexicano! The Pescado Tikin-Xic was perfection.

otberbur: #DCRW @ Bombay Club: Unusual items most successful: asparagus fritters both spicy and creamy, intriguing carrot dessert. Attractive room.

LPags03: Ugh - hate being rushed. 3 courses in under an hour at hook. Food just okay.

kerikaeindc: Lychee and gazpacho drink at #TenPenh: Delicious palate-cleanser (if you like V8 like I do....).

ShanonDMurray: Dinner @ Potenza. Had Polpettine d'Agnello then Cod al Forno & Chocolate-Hazelnut Semi Freddo for dessert. Dessert was the star.

FrenchTwistDC: @CarpeDC Yes, @ristorantetosca did not disappoint. Had veal ravioli (amazing), lamb chops (so good) & panna cota (delicious).

jarsenault: Hit PS7's for #DCRW. Mussels & stuffed pork loin both excellent, beef tenderloin tasty but oversauced, choc-pb bar delightful

RRosser2: still full from @willowva dins last pm! bbq chick flatbrd/mussels, scallops w ravioli. did the wine pairing and the gruner was great!

tstemann: Ate at Vidalia last night for restaurant week...everything was good, but the grilled baby octopus was the highlight for me

August 26 Restaurant Week updates:

ldshap00: @bestbitesblog #DCRW Columbia Firehouse RW lunch yesterday. Food was good but terrible timing & plates were coming out on top of each other.

Lauraroose: Thumbs up for large group dinner at McCormick & Schmicks. Great selection: ribeye, lobster, salmon, crab etc and pleasant service

ShanonDMurray: Recommend lunch at Chef Geoff's. Restaurant Wk applies to entire menu. Had the Fattoush Salad, Seared Tuna & Mocha cheesecake. Yum!

FrenchTwistDC: Dinner at Art & Soul for #DCRW: gazpacho with avocado cream, crispy trout, peach pecan crumble with a sweet bourbon peach tea please! Miam!

FrenchTwistDC: Change of plans.... Having the arugula salad with blackberry dressing and the pork chop instead. Yummy. #DCRW #Art&Soul

ElyssaK: Trout at Art and Soul was excellent. I like how they just kind of layer all the pieces of the dish on top of each other. Different.

ShelbyLove2009: Acadiana was delicious! I dont think i ever need to eat again!

SeanQuixote: Enjoying delightful surf n' turf and knocking back a few glasses of tempranillo @ Hook in Georgetown for Restaurant Week.

cgouskos: Great meal at The Palm. Best part was the three cheese potato, the filet, and the crab cakes

Hawaii2DCdee: Took one bite of the lamb burger from #Citronelle tonight and almost died...amazing! #dcrw however was a bit of a let down with Hook....

August 25 Restaurant week updates:

anneblair: fabulous lunch at acadiana - trio of deviled eggs and bread pudding were great! entire menu for entrees.

bethshanna: Poste during #DCRW? Kinda pointless. Also oddly quiet. And underwhelming. Which in no way tempers my excitement for RASIKA tomorrow.

LPags03: art & soul - food good, service slow. let's see how 701 and hook fare...

lilel: Lunch at Vidalia was good. Dessert was best part. Other courses they were trying too hard

ldshap00:went to Me Jana for RW lunch yesterday. Great food but mezze is already cheap. Not the best value.

chrisbrowntv: Dinner at Vermilion last night in Old Town. Spectacular!

ebnert: Ate at sushi ko for #DCRW, go for the mussel and seaweed miso soup, shrimp and asparagus tempura, and beef tenderloin, delicious

LauraHubbard: Dinner last night for Restaurant Week at Poste. The braised trotter was amazing - very happy our server recommended it.

Cancemini4: Hit up Co Co Sala last night, food was good but definitely not worth the price

rindonesia: lobster mac&cheese, grilled sirloin, & molten chocolate cake @ Oya last night. worth the price, but service could have been better.

waywardmarmot: Went to 701 for RW lunch - burger and peach tart were delicious, pastas a little bland. Good portions, slow service.

MereDitty: Vidalia was very interesting/adventurous:almost full menu for #DCRW. Favs: pigstail app (seriously!), shrimp&grits, all desserts!

calidlee: The halibut at The Oval Room was delicious. Appetizers are tiny, but very yummy.

Had a fabulous lunch at Volt on Sunday. The creative corn chowder w/ avocado ice cream amuse bouche and the peach tarte tatin were the highlights. Entrees were good too, especially the flat iron steak Highly recommend.

Acadiana just OK. Don’t think I’d be back for the regular entree price. Food seemed a bit rushed - creme brulee wasn’t even hard on the top - but tasted pretty good. We went to Oval Room last year; the food seemed far superior there.

Columbia Drafthouse is already reasonably priced so the RW menu isn’t much of a deal but they do have great cornbread. Johnny’s Half Shell had TERRIBLE service. I would NEVER go back. Chef Geoff’s (Tyson’s location) (for lunch) was a FANTASTIC deal! Everything on the menu is fair game. I had the crab dumplings which were delicious, lobster roll (yummy) & the mocha cheesecake. I can’t wait to go back next year.

Best meal ever at the Oceanaire! Shrimp Dejon to die for and after the Char & the bake Alaska I was in heaven. Best service, best music. This place is a must go.

Dined at Yaku in Arlington TWICE within past month with friends and BOTH times, service was Horrible, Food was over seasoned (dessert blah), timing of food was bad (we waited forty minutes between second and third course, our waiter never came by to ask if we needed water, wine nada) and and last night’s cocount ice cream turned out to be plain jane vanilla. Oh, plus the small bar area is smoking and the bartenders are unattentive unless you know them. We will not be returning.

Great lunch at Goldoni
Very crowded, but surprisingly smooth service.
Poor selection of wines by the glass.
Particularly enjoyed the poached shrimp and the grouper with a Merlot caramel and porcini mushrooms
Very good value and portions very almost full size

Had a great RW dinner experience at Mie N Yu in Georgetown, cuisine & service! They are featuring a lot of local farm meats, which is pretty cool! They also have a 3-course Chinese menu built into the RW menu promoting a Chinese show at the Kennedy Center, which I also thought was creative.

Ate last night at Teatro Goldoni with friends
Excellent and while seating in the main dining room we had the opportunity to see the chef on tv live talking about restaurant week on channel 8
Twenty minutes later we saw him run into the restaurant and into the kitchen.
Glad to know you can have a great meal even when the chef is not present in the kitchen
Overall experience: Wonderful

Lunch at Kinkeads...it took 50mins for an appetizer to come out. Great food, terrible service, extemely rude waiter

Posted by: Esi, Aug 26, 2009 10:46:27 PM

My lunch at spezie was really good. Almost all of the menu was available. The rainbow trout was excellent.

Posted by: chiquita, Aug 26, 2009 10:30:47 AM

vermilion last night. carpaccio appetizer excellent, all the tastes went well together. entree was salmon with cornbread panzanella and basil pesto. The cornbread part was a little sweet for my taste, but the rest of the accompaniments (the pesto, capers, olives, etc) were a very good compliment to the the perfectly cooked salmon. The melon julius dessert was a lot of fun and good to eat.

Dined at Nage for lunch during preview week. Squash blossoms were wonderful, fig dish was great, lobster mac and cheese great, short ribs over the top! Lemon goat cheesecake wonderfully fresh, didn’t love the tangy yogurt (but I was the only one). Great service!

The Occidental for lunch on Monday... I have to say was a little underwhelmed by portion size. Service was fine, but I probably won’t be back. Admittedly, I think I just don’t like smoked trout (starter), but I did really enjoy the cold poached salmon. Souffle cake was tasty.

Hope this helps!

Went to Tallula in Arlington last night - usually a good experience. Would not recommend it for the value and the heavily salted food was hard to stomach. Service was very slow - we waited a full 15 minutes to order a drink... on the positive side the duck was tasty and the desert was phenomenal.

Why was Cafe du Parc serving iceberg lettuce and pollock? Tasted good, but oddly cheap ingredients.

Still no twitter, but did dine at Adour tonight. Meal started with two complimentary amuse-bouches. First was two little bread puffs with a parmesan flavor. Second was a small portion of hummus with crisp toast. Then choice of two starters - gazpacho or ceviche. Both my husband and I had the ceviche, which had a lime and ginger taste topping. It was excellent, although small, but it was oddly topped with a few pieces of popcorn. I would ditch the popcorn - popcorn on cold fish just gets soggy, and didn’t add any flavor. For mains, three options - a vegetarian pesto pasto, lamb chop and tenderloin, and salmon. Both my husband and I had the lamb - excellent preparation of lamb in two different ways with a small potato that was very tasty. (again, please note, small but reasonable-sized portions) Dessert - choice of two - my husband had a sachertorte - very chocolatey and tasty, but my choice - a light dessert with cake topped with a berry sorbet and covered in whipped cream, merengue, and fresh fruit - was excellent. Overall, given the normal price of Adour and the tasty and unusual dishes, I give it a thumbs up on restaurant week. (Note: there was also a 30.00 wine pairing available)

Sorry - Not on twitter. Ate tonight at Hook with husband. Excellent! First course both of us had gazpacho with jumbo lump crab - not on their online restaurant week menu. Extremely tasty yellow? tomato gazpacho with a fava bean puree and a dollop of jumbo lump crap. Second course husband had arctic char with curry base, basmati rice - a bit odd with peas mixed in, but tasty nonetheless. I had the bluefish on a base of beet tops, polenta, and pesto. Only disappointment was that my filet of fish was half the size of that of nearby diners eating the same dish, otherwise tasty. Dessert both of us had lemon cake with honey icecream - tasty, but definitely bite size. Overall, given normal prices at Hook, I give it a thumbs up for Restaurant Week value.
