Learn how to imbibe like an expert at Cork Market’s Wine Fundamentals 2 class. You’ll study the differences between grape varietals and regional wine characteristics and hear about the basics of wine production. The class, $45 per person, runs from 7 to 8:30. Open Kitchen (7115 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church) is hosting a Caribbean dinner to benefit relief efforts in Haiti. To help resolve the beer-or-wine debate, Brabo wine director Leah Dedmon and Brasserie Beck beer director Thor Cheston, an engaged couple, are staging a head-to-head showdown. Each will pair a drink of choice with a four-course meal at Brabo (1600 King St., Alexandria) at 7. Diners will vote for the winner at the end of the meal. Celebrate the end of this long winter with cherry-blossom-inspired dishes and cocktails at the Eat, Drink, and Be Cherry Pink Tie Party at the W Hotel (515 15th St., NW). Equinox chef Todd Gray reveals the secrets making your own mozzarella and whipping up fresh pasta at Market Salamander’s Italian Wine Dinner. After taking notes, participants can dine on roasted tomatoes, grilled Tuscan sausage, pecorino cheese, and tiramisu, among other dishes. The dinner, $48 per person, begins at 7. Passion Food Hospitality wine and beverage director Scott Clime leads a bourbon tasting at Acadiana.
