The Cupcake Cup: Cupcakes Actually vs. Alexandria Pastry Shop

Help us vote for the best cupcake in Washington.

Happy Tuesday morning, everybody! Ready for some more Cupcake Cup matchups? We're getting close—by tomorrow we'll have the final Sweet Sixteen. Who do you think will advance to the Edible Eight—or even take it all? Bakeshop is moving on to the Sweet Sixteen—it won easily over Breads Unlimited. Lavender Moon and Sticky Fingers' cupcakes are still battling it out over here—you can vote in that contest until 2 PM today. Click below for this morning's match up.

Cupcakes Actually: At this Fairfax cupcakery, Detroit-bred sisters Sue Woodhouse and Jennifer Neiman recruited a cook with experience at California’s French Laundry to fine-tune their 25 cupcake recipes, three of which are topped with chocolate-dipped buttercream frosting.

Alexandria Pastry Shop: This catering and pastry company uses real butter and cream from Shenandoah Valley creameries in their cupcakes and cakes.

This poll will close Wednesday at 10 AM.

*To help keep this contest fair, we've elected to use an IP address-based poll. This means that if you are voting from an office or network setting, not everybody will be able to vote. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you'll encourage coworkers to vote from their home computer.

I am another baker at Cupcakes Actually and I would like to join Joe in thanking all of you for voting for us and for your great feedback - positive and negative. We strive to make our product the best it can be, and your comments are so valuable. To Chris S.: Please come back in and try another cupcake-on me, we have several new recipes I think you would like. Light as air and very moist. Thanks again to all of you - we appreciate it!

Cupcakes Actually is the best place to get cupcakes in the DC Area. They are always reliable, and never bake a bad product. I can always count on them for my catering needs. You should too :D

I’ve been up and down the East Coast looking for a cupcake that matches the tastiness of Cupcakes Actually and still can’t find one. All of the recommended spots in DC and NYC haven’t been able to top the pleasure that is eating a CA cupcake. Keep on keeping on!

Cupcakes Actually have the best cupcakes.
You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten one of
their fabulous chocolate dipped delicacies.
The cupcakes are moist and rich, the toppings
divine.
