The Cupcake Cup: Bakeshop vs. Hello Cupcake

Help us vote for the best cupcake in Washington.

It was a close and contested race, but more than 500 votes later, Curbside Cupcakes beat Baked & Wired to move to the Edible Eight. Baked & Wired, Washingtonian will always have a special place in our hearts for you. (For more cupcake fun, you can still vote in the Georgetown Cupcake vs. Furin's matchup here.)

Click below for this morning's match up.

Bakeshop: For a long time, the only way you could get Bakeshop cupcakes was to swing by the (now defunct) Murky Coffee in Arlington or to order from the baker's Web site. Now, Bakeshop has its own store in Clarendon, and you can order everything from red velvet to cookies 'n' cream cupcakes with abandon.

Hello Cupcake: With espresso drinks, wifi, cupcake flavors such as Velvet Elvis, 24 Carrot, Peanut Butter Blossom, and gluten-free and vegan choices, this Dupont Circle store has tons of fans.

This poll will stay open until 10 AM on Saturday.

*To help keep this contest fair, we've elected to use an IP address-based poll. This means that if you are voting from an office or network setting, not everybody will be able to vote. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you'll encourage coworkers to vote from their home computer.

Bakeshop has the best red velvet cupcakes in the world!!

Posted by: Hilda, Mar 13, 2010 07:53:39 AM

Bakeshop is by far so much better than Hello Cupcake. The top is nice and crispy, while the inside of the cake are dense and moist unlike the dry and too caky cakes from Hello Cupcake. The icing is also to die for, I have never tasted such a light and fluffy icing like the vanilla bean butter cream they seem to use in a lot of their cupcakes, even in the red velvets!- which is not the regular cream cheese... they also have the perfect hint of sweetness to it... not too rich like other cupcakes I have tried. I had their red velvet and by far the best I have had in a long time. I see this Bakery in for the long run. I also recommend their oatmeal cream pie cookies... After trying one, I have gone back to get more of those... Bakeshop definitely gets my vote!
