The Cupcake Cup: Cupcakes Actually vs. Nostalgia Cupcakes

Help us vote for the best cupcake in Washington.

Published Monday, March 15, 2010

Happy Monday, cupcake lovers! The weekend brought us two more Edible Eight entrants—Something Sweet won over Sticky Fingers, and Bakeshop triumphed over Hello Cupcake. So let's get the rest of this cupcake party started this week.

Click below for this morning's match up.

Cupcakes Actually: At this Fairfax cupcakery, Detroit-bred sisters Sue Woodhouse and Jennifer Neiman recruited a cook with experience at California’s French Laundry to fine-tune their 25 cupcake recipes, three of which are topped with chocolate-dipped buttercream frosting.

Nostalgia Cupcakes: This Annapolis bakery offers up a "Hot Chocolate" cupcake, salted-caramel cupcakes, and much more. Bonus: If you bring your four-legged friend along, the store has "pupcake" treats for them.

This poll will close Tuesday at 10 AM.*To help keep this contest fair, we've elected to use an IP address-based poll. This means that if you are voting from an office or network setting, not everybody will be able to vote. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you'll encourage coworkers to vote from their home computer.

ACTUALLY CUPCAKES ARE THE BEST I HAVE EVER TASTED

I love cupcakes so you can imagine my excitement when Cupcakes Actually opened up close to where I live. I have been there three times and have been disappointed each time. The cupcakes where very dry and had a crunchy bite to them.

Nostalgia Cupcakes are by far the best around. If you tasted the Red Velvetcake and the Goldrush Carrotcake, you’ll know there’s simply no competition!

Nostalgia Cupcakes are the best around without a question! If you taste the Red Velvetcake and the Golden Carrotcake, you’ll know there’s simply no competition!

Cupcakes Actually cupcakes are fantastic. Unfortunately, their Fairfax Corner location makes them a special occasion or ’in the area’ destination. The actually dipped line is awesome.

Too bad Nostalgia Cupcakes is in Annapolis. They probably lose here by default.

Cupcakes Actually did the most amazing chocolate covered strawberry cupcake around valentines day -- with a vanilla cupcake and strawberry puree filling, it was pure bliss

Posted by: Kimberly, Mar 15, 2010 11:25:53 AM

Nostalgia Cupcakes has the most amazing cupcakes! They do a Red Velvet that is to die for, and their Chocolate City cupcake is ridiculous, chocolate cake topped with chocolate ganache, and rolled in chocolate. If you haven’t had a Nostalgia Cupcake then you are definitely missing out!

Nostalgia Cupcakes has some of the most delicious cupcakes on the planet. Their Red Velvet is to die for, and they have a chocolate cake that is ridiculous- chocolate cake topped with chocolate ganache and rolled in chocolate!

Cupcakes Actually has the best cupcakes. I have turned all my friends and family on to them by having them try the hand dipped cupcake. My personal favorite!

Totally unfair to pit cupcakeries from different Geographic areas against eachother! This makes the comparison a SHAM - as most folks in either area are not sampling from both -- Come on Washingtonian - make some sense!

Posted by: Anon, Mar 15, 2010 10:12:17 AM

If this is a "no contest" contest for Nostalgia, why then are the results showing Cupcakes Actually in the lead by more than 30%?!? Cupcakes Actually’s flourless chocolate cupcake is to die for!

Don’t know what you all are talking about. Cupcakes Actually has the BEST cupcakes. The cake is moist and flavorful, the frosting is just right (not nauseatingly sweet or heavy), and they are generally delicious! Go Cupcakes Actually!

Love Nostalgia Cupcakes. Especially the chocolate frosting. Yum.

Nostalgia Cupcakes has the best cupcakes hands down!

Posted by: Jen, Mar 15, 2010 09:22:01 AM

Nostalgia Cupcakes are the best I have had, better than Mom’s even!
One bite and you are hooked!

You haven’t lived until you have had a dipped
cupcake from Cupcakes Actually. . .

Yelp-ers don’t lie. This is a "No Contest" contest. Nostalgia Cupcackes, hands down.
