Chew on This: What Are Your Restaurant Pet Peeves?

By Kate Nerenberg

In restaurant critic Todd Kliman's chat today, a reader wrote to him about a blizzard of mistakes at a recent dinner at the Majestic in Old Town. The reader was particularly annoyed that servers brought the wrong food to the wrong customers in his party and that his original waitress wasn't the one who brought the check to his table—especially after a night full of errors. We want to know what's really irksome to you at restaurants. What are your pet peeves when you go out to eat?

It has to be indifferent service. Can manifest itself in server appearing bored/tired/focused elsewhere. Or slow service between courses. Or constantly offering upcharges. Etc.

Ik went to Founding Farmers for what was suppose to be a quick, late lunch before going to the Corcoran, and the service was painfully slow (45 minutes to refill my drink order...an hour between the appetizer and entrees?) By the time we were done, the exhibit had closed for the day. It would have been understandable if the restaurant was busy---but no, servers were rolling silverware in front of us as we painfully waited to get our check and get out of there! Amazing, amazing food--but I’ll never go back.

Farmers and Fishers had horrible service. I would never go back.

Call ahead seating duh what is the difference between this and a reservation.

When they clear my plate before my dining partner is done, or vice versa. Drives me up the wall.
