Meet the Food Trucks of Montgomery County (Pictures)

This fleet of mobile eateries feeds MoCo office workers everything from fish tacos to corned-beef knishes.

“There’s nothing here,” says Dan Schiff, an office worker in Rockville.

When it comes to quality, quick-service, non-chain eateries, lunch options are few around the stretch of Fishers Lane where Schiff works. That’s why he e-mailed Sub Urban Bros.—one of the handful of food trucks roaming Montgomery County—and asked the mobile sandwich maker to stop by his complex. Now the stop is a regular part of the route for the Bros., who say they serve hundreds in the area.

The number of MoCo food trucks may never catch up to the District or Northern Virginia—truck owners cite costly commissary kitchen fees and a lack of foot traffic as deterrents—but that doesn’t mean they’re inferior in quality. From juicy corned-beef sandwiches to thick shakes and fresh lobster rolls, we found a host of delicious midday options in Maryland’s gourmet vending scene. Check out our slideshow of offerings from four of the savory pioneers who hit the streets of Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring, and Kensington days, nights, and weekends to meet the demands of hungry Marylanders.

Still hungry? Check out the MoCo vendors peddling dessert. That treat fleet includes the newly opened Cupcake Blvd. and Cravin Cookies.
