Sidewalk Style: Legally Fashionable

This week, we noticed an attorney in an eye-catching vintage outfit.

By Rachel Cothran

Jessica Johnson
Age: “How old do you think I am?”
Attorney for a federal agency

What she’s wearing: Vintage dress and matching jacket (the label is Lilli Ann Knit) from Remix Vintage on Capitol Hill. Her shoes are Kenneth Cole Reaction, and the earrings were a gift from a friend who was with her when she bought the outfit.

Do people often stop you to ask about your clothes?
“It happens a lot. I call this my magic suit. I don’t think I own anything else that gets me this much attention!”

Where do you shop?
“The majority of my professional clothes come from Filene’s Basement. And I shop at the consignment and vintage stores. Since I went to law school, I have a lot of loans to pay back, so I’m on a budget.”

How would you describe your style? Is this a typical look for you?
“This is sort of out of character. I tend to dress conservatively and for practicality. Maybe that’s because of my upbringing in Alaska. When I dress up, I want to wear something unique and unusual. I wore this because Michelle Obama made an appearance at our office today and I thought there might be a chance that I’d meet her.”

Do you think Michelle Obama has made an impression on Washington’s style?
“She brings an extra vibrance. I think it’s too early to say if she’s starting any specific trends yet. She’s classy with a bit of spunk.”

Rachel says:
What a fun outfit! The jacket would be great with so many other outfits, such as a cream top with a black (or red or blue) pencil skirt, jeans and piles of necklaces for the weekend, or just belted. The possibilities are endless.

Sigh, I’m all for eye-catching and off-kilter, as long as it’s not awful--which it is--especially with those dull, dull shoes.

I think the dress and jacket look great - I wish we could see the dress with the jacket off. A great look on a beautiful woman. I think Michelle Obama would be pleased to meet Jess in that outfit.

Jessica looks fabulous in that outfit.
Its also nice that she thought about what she was going to wear in case she got a chance to meet Michelle Obama--and I hope she did.

This is a fashionable woman and a classic beauty! So put together! What a vibrant color choice for D.C., so refreshing!!!

First of all...kudos for being bold and wearing something a little off-kilter (especially for DC). Second of all, tanning is such a bad idea for a pale beauty!

HATE the jacket. Would be a cute dress alone. Especially if she had a tan!
